This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
My wife and I visited with John and Kim Wagner yesterday and left with a blessing. Mrs. Wagner was fast asleep the whole time but Mr. Wagner shared with me a verse he had been meditating upon. "The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness." Psalm 41:3. He asked, "Does the Lord literally make our bed in our sickness?" In other words, is this verse figurative or literal? He believes it is literal. Here's why. As he makes the bed for his wife day by day and tends to her and cares for her moment by moment, he is the hands and feet of Christ to her. So, there's a real sense that the Lord makes Kim's bed using the instrumentality of John. And so it is with everything else in life. God uses His people in various places to minister to one another as the hands and feet of Christ. When we visit those in prison, when we clothe the naked, when we tend to the sick ... inasmuch as we do it to the least of these, we do it to Christ.
We also had another late night men's prayer meeting last night at 9:30pm with four men at our church. Does lightning strike twice? Yes, it does. Heaven came down our souls to greet, and glory crowned the mercy seat. We meditated on some Scripture, we read some revival accounts from church history, and we prayed. We're just simple individuals but the time flew by and by 1:30am we called it a day. A lot of personal repentance. A lot of soul searching. A lot of earnest seeking after God. Is God at work? I believe so. Be encouraged dear friends. Give Him no rest until He be pleased to revive our prayer meetings everywhere.
