'It's time to get out' of public schools, says college professor

A Rhode Island professor is not mincing words when it comes to Christian parents with children in public schools.

"It is time to get out," Anthony Esolen, an English professor at Providence College, writes on the religious website abundanthope.net.

Laurie Higgins of the Illinois Family Institute recalls that some people have been warning for years about the "corrosive environment" of public schools, and those who believed that did nothing but talk about it, she says.

"And we do nothing and now it's right on our doorstep," Higgins tells OneNewsNow. ...

You go ahead and send kids to public school, because election wins in the end, and it doesn't matter how you live in the meantime? Call me Arminian if it helps you cope with your fatalism.

One shouldn't have to wallow in the pigpen to smell the pigs, Jim. And the Amish know only too well what secular world is like. They manage to avoid some of it, not all. btw, their "unusual way of life" was more the norm one upon a time. You know, teach and learn practical, useful skills; how to be in, but not of the world; take care of widows; help each other when in trouble, and so on. Weird, aren't they?

Perkins, you do not seem have a proper understanding of the sovereignty of God or the responsibility of man. First, away with the free will of man discussion we are not talking about that.

The Bible says learn not the way of the heathen, the Bible says cease my son to hear the instruction that causes you to err from the truth, the Bible says guard your heart will all diligence, the Bible says put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh, the words avoid is found in the Old and New Testaments, we are commanded to not yield ourselves to unrighteousness unto sin but unto God, we are told we are to walk in the light, we are told to pursue Holiness, we are told to resist the devil, we are commanded to work out of own salvation with fear and trembling...(running OOC)...God's grace is sufficient to sustain us in any circumstance but the Bible does not teach a let go and let God. Your argument is not with the those who post in this forum you are arguing with the Word of God. Your problem is you can't fit God into your small theological box.

Perkins, I don't think you get it! It's not really because of the education that we homeschool children. It's because of the sin, immorality, anti-GOD and humanistic teachings and "lifestyle".
I DO NOT want my child learning about homosexual acts!! Read the Word of GOD! He tells us not to learn the way of the heathen. GOD is sovereign - and in His sovereignty, He has written His instructions for us in how we are to live and how we are to raise our families. I have not found any Scriptures supporting hyper-Calvanism!

By the way, I think all states have a homeschool organization such as Nebraska does, http://www.nchea.org/ (Encouraging and supporting Christian families who educate their children at home). They would be good organizations to check, for parents who want an alternative to public schooling. It may not be all that expensive either, if one checks it out.

As I pointed out before the idea some of you have that the elect children of God must have the perfect education otherwise they shall not be saved is absolutely ridiculous.

God is sovereign over the lives of the elect and for some of them the life God provides for them is poverty and NO education. The poor are still part of those elected by God.

The ideology posted below that the future generation must have the perfect education - and thus ONLY by mum and dad - is quite simply unrealistic.

The Christian is sent into a fallen world with unsaved reprobates in the majority all around us including in the education system. BUT THAT DOES NOT DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF GOD.

And the elect "qualifications" do not include an education because the elect are elected by God before the foundation of the world. (Eph 1:4,5)

When any child enters into the public school system and that child is elect of God, then the assumption by some of you that this will somehow hinder his/her life and the purpose of God is ludicrous and suggests that YOU don't really trust God.

God's elect are personally looked after by God Himself by grace - NOT by mum and dad's education plans.

Jeremiah 11:4 is interesting in light of 10:23.

"...Obey My voice, and do according to all that I command you; so shall you be My people, and I will be your God."

Dear GSTexas,

Apparently you do not, and cannot understand the sovereignty of God because you're to full of yourself to understand that you don't have to understand it for it to be true.

How did you come to this baseless conclusion? I simply posted my disdain for the fatalistic antinomianism that some have fallen for. The elect obey scripture (John 14:21). If you believe that Jeremiah 10:23 means that we are not to obey scripture because God controlls everything we do anyways, than you are mistaken. Im inclined to think his directing our steps would be in righteousness rather than complacency.

Despite election Christ still condemns the Nicolaitans. Antinomianism is incompatible with the reformed faith. The elect are to obey the commandments of Christ, even in childrearing

But lets not obey scripture so we dont take away from Gods sovereignty.

While you and I have our differences
I nevertheless felt I ought to post

If I understand you correctly, "But lets not obey scripture so we dont take away from Gods sovereignty. " has to do with those who abuse the sovereigny of God into slackness(slothfulness) and doing nothing. Something IMHO we ought to avoid like the plague.

Very true P. O. T.! I think our brother should read Jeremiah 10:23 for himself. I'm sure it would prove very educational!

Dear GSTexas,

Apparently you do not, and cannot understand the sovereignty of God because you're to full of yourself to understand that you don't have to understand it for it to be true. God's word says in Jeremiah 10:23 that it is not in man that walks to direct his steps. God directs man's steps, and if you can't understand that, well fine, cause you don't have to. You just need to acknowledge scripture as the true unfallible word of God!

Families who homeschool, are most likely to live modestly. Families who are more affluent, are likely to send off their kids to public and private schools. I witness this in my church and in the community.

We homeschool and we are not rich, not even close. We are blessed. Sonlight curriculum cost $800 for the whole year... everything you need. Skip eating out a few times and it's easily affordable for anyone.

Also many of you would benefit watching the "Stay Free" series on YouTube by The Fuel Project. I'm just saying...

I don't know where this rich homeschooling idea has come from. It's nothing to do with money!! It's to do with raising our children as GOD instructs us to do.
If I send my kids to a public school, perhaps I should also go to gay nightclubs and heavy metal rock concerts!? Won't GOD just save me and keep me regardless of what I do (according to some of the previous comments)?
No! GOD talks about protecting the children and training them to live His ways as they mature and learn to look to Him in all ways.
