American Bible Society to sell 12-story NYC building

The American Bible Society will sell its 12-story building on Broadway, vacating prime real estate in the heart of Manhattan that serves other evangelical ministries.

The society provides space to several New York-based evangelical organizations, such as Q Ideas, Redeemer Presbyterian Church’s Center for Faith & Work, the Museum of Biblical Art and Young Life. Through the years, the building had become a destination for Christians in the city.

The 200-year-old ABS first occupied the 1865 Broadway address in 1966 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Billy Graham. The organization has not made any decisions about a new location, but a spokesperson said it remained committed to New York City. ...

The article put up by SA is informative. It didn't include the fact that the ABS is an ecumenical organization, and have even put out Bible versions acceptable to Catholics, The Roman Catholic Bible, and not with just the Apocrypha. The commentary in a Romish Bible is loathsome.

So the ABS has done some good work, and their Good News Bible is very bad, q.v., Comparing Bible Translations--Conclusions. So, there are several reasons support for the ABS has suffered through the years.

I view life as one enormous jigsaw puzzle. 10+ years ago, our family enjoyed a visit to the American Bible Society building and Bible museum located in NYC on Broadway near Columbus Circle and Central Park. It was a great experience in a great location.

Some years earlier, while walking towards home as a high school student, I received a Good News New Testament distributed by the ABS. I was not an evangelical Christian at the time. It was an influence that helped to direct me toward a commitment to Christ that I made approximately 7 years later.
