Military parents embrace homeschooling
A growing number of military parents want to end the age-old tradition of switching schools for their kids.

They’ve embraced homeschooling, and are finding support on bases, which are providing resources for families and opening their doors for home schooling cooperatives and other events.

‚ÄúIf there‚Äôs a military installation, there‚Äôs very likely home-schoolers there if you look,‚ÄĚ said Nicole McGhee, 31, of Cameron, N.C., a mother of three with a husband stationed at North Carolina‚Äôs Fort Bragg who runs a Facebook site on military home schooling. ...

Actually more in line with the article, which I often grip about others failing to o. Fewer home-school families cite religion as their main motivation.

So? Atheists certainly value homeschooling their is no doubt about that. The most famous atheist logician had some interesting comments on his homeschooling which can be found here, The education of John Stuart Mill
from which we get this excerpt:
John Stuart Mill wrote:
There was one cardinal point in this training … which, more than anything else, was the cause of whatever good it effected. Most boys or youths who have had much knowledge drilled into them, have their mental capacities not strengthened, but over-laid by it. They are crammed with mere facts, and with the opinions or phrases of other people, and these are accepted as a substitute for the power to form opinions of their own: and thus the sons of eminent fathers, who have spared no pains in their education, so often grow up mere parroters of what they have learnt, incapable of using their minds except in the furrows traced for them. Mine, however, was not an education of cram....
