Priests to Pelosi: condemn abortion or leave the Church

A pro-life group called on California Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi to “exercise your duties as a public servant and a Catholic, or have the honesty to formally renounce them,” in a widely-circulated open letter Wednesday.

“Public servants are supposed to be able to tell the difference between serving the public and killing the public. Apparently, you can’t,” wrote national director of Priests for Life Father Frank Pavone. “Otherwise, you would have been able to explain the difference between a legal medical procedure that kills a baby inside the womb and an act of murder.”

Pavone’s letter was written in response to the Minority Leader’s argument with a reporter — The Weekly Standard asked Pelosi to clarify her position on abortion in the wake of the Kermit Gosnell case during a press conference Thursday.

“What is the moral difference between what Dr. Gosnell did to a baby born alive at 23 ...

From what I read, Chris, the majority left because of child abuse. By the way, one of the ultimate child abuse cases has had a new article written about it, This Week in History: The Mortara Affair. You should look that one over. If I remember the Pew data correctly about half that leave become Protestants and the other half nothing. The Scandal of the Catholic Priesthood has turned many of those who leave off on Christianity entirely. Pity considering, Should Roman Catholicism really be classified as a Christian religion? -- No. (PDF)

Thanks, Jim...will check the links L8r.

I don't know why so many were/are never excommunicated. Money? Fear? A lot of hypocrisy going on within.
I hope the 2/3rds you mentioned that leave due to the false teachings, actively search out the truth as opposed to just quitting all together.

Chris, some good comments about Purgatory, both articles are PDF, since you're one person who would want to know that Purgatory: An Essential Roman Catholic Doctrine and Purgatory—A Grave Rejection of the Gospel.

Yes, you seem to be right about high profile people never getting excommunicated. Was a Kennedy ever excommunicated? However, this was suppose to be a power that the Romish Church had over its laity, The Perils of Popery and to make sure RCC politicians toed the Party line. However, it is said that if all the ex-Catholic were in one denomination, they would be the third largest in the nation, q.v., Clergy Sexual Abuse and the Catholic Church--Pew Research Center an excerpt, "... Many people who leave the Catholic Church do so for religious reasons; two-thirds of former Catholics who have become unaffiliated say they left the Catholic faith because they stopped believing in its teachings,..."

At least 26 bishops openly rebuked Pelosi in 2008. She is notorious within every sector of orthodox Christianity.

According to recent stats, the church would lose 2/3rds if its enrollment if they excommunicated all who support the homosexuals.
Interesting how the church threatens excommunication on a by person/sin basis since Hitler, Mussolini, and many other high profile monsters, both past and present were never condemned by the church or cut out of its lineup.
If they found out you were a "born again" Christian and excommunicated you, would you spend much more time in Purgatory or end up in Hell for all eternity? Or, am I insane for thinking such a thing?

Well it is about time that Pelosi and all other Catholic Democrats who support abortion are told to renounce supporting abortion or leave the Catholic Church. Catholics who support homosexuality should also be told to renounce support of homosexuality or leave the Catholic Church.
