Chicago Suffering One Shooting Every 6.3 Hours as 2013 Homicide Count Hits 100
There have been 441 shootings and 100 homicides in the city of Chicago so far this year, according to a blog that tracks crime in Chicago.

That works out to 3.8 shootings per day or approximately one shooting every 6.3 hours.

The "Crime in Chicago" blog updates daily and tracks crime news within the city. It keeps a running tally of all homicides and shootings.

I guess we don't have any problem, since no long and scary looking black gun has ever slaughtered any six-year-old.

I guess we can't let you have a gun, Bute. I, without knowing you, have prejudged that you're dangerous and we can't trust you. Now I feel safer.

How many ad hoc aliases do you have, Jim?

All criminals previously had no criminal record.
Most mentally incompetents were previously seen as mentally competent.

So, what percentage of shootings are committed by those with
a. no criminal record?
b. no previous assessment of mental incompetence?

what is NOT in the article is the percentage of guns used to commit crimes that were purchased at one of the many gun stores sited. Criminals DON'T NEED GUN STORES to obtain guns. If you cannot see that this article is about a city that has a hand gun ban and some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, has one of the highest (if not the highest) murder rate in the nation is PROOF that GUN LAWS DON'T WORK, then must say in all due respect let the ignorant be ignorant. The problem is not guns,as every place that heads of households are required to own guns, CRIME GOES DOWN. It is because justice is not executed speedily the hearts of the children of men is fully set to do evil.

3)In 2010 the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) ran 16,454,951 background checks for firearms purchases. Only a small number of these purchases (78,211 or 0.48 percent) were denied." (abcnews.go.com)

Dot connecting difficulty, I see.

1) The one who killed the 6 year olds didn't have the right to bear the arms he used, so the right is not a factor in their deaths. On the other hand, his mental state and his disregard of the law are.

2) Correct, and if you don't have a criminal record and are not mentally incompetent, why shouldn't you be able to?

3)This data does not help your case. It only serves to show how miniscule the number of guns used in crime is, in comparison with the number that exist. Meaning your approach, parroting liberals of all stains, is overkill. In other words, killing the dog to get rid of his fleas. Sorry, it's not acceptable to civilized people.

Long black gun which repeats its slaughtering action and kills six year olds in a country which supports the 'right to bear' such lethal carnage effects.

"There are more than 129,817 federally licensed firearms dealers in the United States, according to the latest Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives numbers (as of Aug. 1) . Of those, 51,438 are retail gun stores, 7,356 are pawn shops and 61,562 are collectors, with the balance of the licenses belonging mostly to manufacturers and importers of firearms and destructive devices."

the need to control others must have its roots in arrogance, greed, or idolatry.

often the controllers are the least able...

the scriptures talk of Satan coming to accuse the brethren, to steal and destroy.

Yet our Heavenly Father created the Universe in great mystery and beauty.

are we not to reflect Christ?

more farmers are losing their breeds, their seeds due to this centralizing power that wants no competition.

take all these kids that have no jobs, give em a plot of land and a few of those evil tools, it would certainly help. instead we've got them all locked up in cities with food stamps. yep, nanny state is having its way.

Jim, you probably don't live in a big city, do ya? Would you consider living out what you would require on others, such as moving to inner city Chicago among the lost, the criminals and the scared citizens to share the gospel, trusting in the police to come when the need arises?

Only an "independent" could make a connection between jpw's reference to garden tools on the one hand, and irrelevant axes and machetes on the other. Anything to distract from and defend the nanny state, right Jim?

Ah, jpw! guess what tools such as axes and machetes are no doubt banned from schools, knives would be used if people didn't have guns, but of course guns make it easier to kill, and kill many more people. Ah, one of the benefits of Industrial Age! Remember interchangeable parts came about with the making of rifles/muskets/whatever. But still the article about Five myths about gun control.

I'm really surprised many of you aren't demanding that it is an inalienable right to drive, so as such cars nor their drivers need to be licensed? Horror forbid, if we keep testing drivers to see if they have the minimal skills and knowledge (of course never intelligence) to drive.

Hmm, perhaps the same restrictions should be made for guns and gun owners? Of course like cars which are the weapon of choice of many people, it won't stop people from being killed, but usually insurance is demanded for car owners, perhaps the same should be true for gun owners as well?

Ah, but to give you something else to chew on, Hunters Boycott Colorado Over New Gun Control Laws. Even-handedn

thanks jpw, errr Penelope, great points, I do remember that story, the teacher had made sure the students couldn't reach the tools and still got suspended, it was a sad story to have to read.

Ban electricity, a know deadly killer. Hospitals can be contagious to your health too, I imagine a disproportionate number of people die in hospitals. How about the poor people who have a fatal heart attack shoveling snow??? Snow shovels should come with a warning if not banned altogether!! The point is any activity involves risk and even lack of activity can kill you. We live in a free and fairly prosperous society (although the current administration is working on eliminating both)and activities we engage in involve risk. While we shouldn't throw caution to the wind, we can't go around living like chicken little either.
There are chicken littles around, US. They are the hangers-on, the nanny state worshippers, the mentally lazy, those with a spirit of fear, so much so they are willing to trade what little they have left of their own lives, for promises of security. The security never comes of course, but they don't learn anything from history either.

I don't complain about car accidents, industrial accidents, accidents in the home or accidents at sea etc etc.
But I reckon that even New Yorkers can see the difference between an accident and somebody murdering another person with a gun or as is increasingly common an assault rifle.
The so called "Right to bear arms" is out of date uncivilised and patently and evidently dangerous in a modern country with arsenals in every mall.
This "Right to bear arms" has developed into a right to self attained justice - AKA Lynch mob justice.
Hyperbole has little place when discussing facts. But it is more suitable to the anti-gun sect emotionalism.

I take it acceptable auto "accidents" include those caused by speeders, dwi's, tailgaters, etc?

And while you're about it, define assault rifle. Try not using the definitions used by the ignorant media.

I'm aware a person can be charged with assault when no weapon is used at all, or "assault with a deadly weapon" which could include knives. When you define assault rifle, I assume you mean any rifle that could possibly be used in an assault? Or do you limit it to the cartoonized version presented by the leftists, and swallowed like a happy pill by some folks?

Ok, site your sources that show that there is in a country overrun by gun stores in your opinion, an epidemic problem of lynch mob justice. Where law abiding citizens are in overwhelming numbers taking the law into their own hands.
