Days before the Boy Scouts of America prepared to consider lifting its blanket prohibition on gays, President Obama reiterated that he thinks the ban should end.
In an interview with CBS News airing during the Super Bowl show Sunday, Obama said, “My attitude is that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunity the same way everybody else does, in every institution and walk of life.” He called the Scouts “a great institution” that offers skills that benefit children throughout their lives.
The Scouts announced last week that its national board would discuss allowing local groups to decide whether to admit gays. The board’s meeting begins in Irving, Texas, on Monday....

But Mark, why should anybody discrimninate against the rapist or paedophile just because they have a different lifestyle and sexual preference?

Is it true, William, that in God's kingdom, whenever something is mightily impressed upon our soul, it normally means that God intends for us to carry it out? If yes, you know the way you must take. And I will pray for your success.
I guess I should petition to be a male girl scout/Brownie Den Mother...or whatever they call them.
I'm happily married to my wife of ten years. I'm a teacher. I am mature enough to be trusted. I'm a Christian. However, there is just something about a 39 year old bearded fat guy out in the woods alone with 8-10 eight to ten year old girls that just wouldn't sit right.
I wouldn't think that parents were inferring that I was a rapist or a pedophile if they just didn't want to put their daughters put into that sort of situation.
Should the daughters then be punished by not being able to go camping or enjoy scouting activities because some of them might end up with male den mothers?
That's the way I see this issue. Will every 'gay' den leader advance on the kids? No, it's not likely, but why would you ever expose yourself to that situation? The parents of these boys will likely, and correctly, pull them out of scouting should the ban on gays be lifted. It will be a disservice to everyone involved.
When I was a kid, "freedom of association" meant you could have your own group with your own people and standards of inclusion/exclusion. Today many people including some in our government seem to think it means anyone should be allowed to join any group that they wish regardless of whatever that group, its people, and its charter have to say about it.
Freedom is like cookie dough in the hand. Hold it too loosely and it'll fall out of your hand. Squeeze it too tightly (as our current "hyper-liberty" culture seems to be doing) and it'll ooze through your fingers and then fall out of your hand.
If people don't know or understand the US Constitution, they won't be able to apply the right amount of "pressure", as indicated in my above analogy, and their lives (whether they realize it or not) will be less blessed in the long run.
Another problem is greater long-term disunity in our culture as those who cannot tolerate "gay scouts" will eventually have to break away and from their own group--presenting yet another target group for gays and women to try to pry their way into.
What I meant was that parents should no longer let their kids participate in scout activities and scout leaders walk away. Clearly the participating scout members don't want homosexual scout leaders and so forth. The government is probably going to forcefully impose their will like they do regardless of what the people say . So the best thing to do is shut it all down

The whole idea is to dismantle the BSA, by redefining it. As is the dismantling of marriage, doing the same.

The president is ever campaigning about something or other unrelated to his position as president. That way he need not address presidential concerns such as the economy, debt, Afghanistan, unemployment.

...they will be called a Christian from that point on, even though everything they say and do is diametrically opposed to the Bibles instructions on salvation and its rules for Christian living, ethics, and morals.
I find it interesting that in todays world, in order for one to qualify to be called a Christian, all they seem to have to do is mention God, say they attend a church, and reference a scripture or two once in a while.
