Barack Obama wins election for second term as president
President Barack Obama handily defeated Gov. Mitt Romney and won himself a second term Tuesday after a bitter and historically expensive race that was primarily fought in just a handful of battleground states. Obama beat Romney after nabbing the crucial state of Ohio.
The Romney campaign's last-ditch attempt to put blue-leaning Midwestern swing states in play failed as Obama's Midwestern firewall sent the president back to the White House for four more years. Obama picked up the swing states of New Hampshire, Michigan, New Mexico, Iowa, Wisconsin, Colorado, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Ohio. Florida and Virginia are still too close to call, but even if he won them, they would not give Romney enough Electoral College votes to put him over the top. The popular vote will most likely be much narrower than the president's Electoral College victory.

Two Cults out of this list of three, Roman Catholics, Mormons, and Jehovah Witnesses got way too much publicity, and even your BBC ran at least one article on Romney's history, which put Mormonism at least in a neutral light instead of the deservedly bad one.
I was to young to have anything to do with it, but probably the only election I would be ecstatic/overjoyed about was that of Dwight David Eisenhower. We have had a long drought of acceptable leaders -- humanly speaking.

I don't feel bitter, in that the word bitter (at least to me) has a vindictive nuance to it. Despair is probably a better description of the prevailing mood I presently see coming from my fellow right-wingers.
Still, for Christians there's always/eventually Heaven, regardless of whatever happens to the USA.

He did say, in his humble Christian way, that we get bitter, clinging to guns or religion. We don't want to make him look bad by denying it.

Yes Jim, but if it should transpire that God's people end up in the same state as some of the first century churches, requiring strong letters from the Lord Jesus Christ himself, then it behoves them to cease hypocritical rejoicing, and attend to the issues which require dealing with.

John, you of all people should know you aren't going to reform fallen man! We can be unhappy with their state, especially when you give them the Word, and they don't respond. But, they and everything else is else is in God's hands.

Also, u felt I should add that I'm not on this forum to argue, I felt compelled to write that we as Christians should stand against wickedness. We should address people who favor a wicked government. As someone wrote, we were voting against Obama. As Christians, we should never apologize or repent of our actions against evil, regardless the outcome of a situation. We should continue to focus on God regardless how bleak a situation looks but at the same time, we should speak out to anyone who favors wickedness.
To the commentator Angela Whittman: if a Christian voted for Romney, there should be NO repentence--my opinion. I feel, as Christians, we have a responsibility to vote for someone who has a pro-life stand. We should not bury our heads in the sand and accept an immoral leader who endorses homosexuality and abortion!! If there is a candidate out there who poised this wicked platform, as Christians, we have a duty, to stand up and fight against this with voting. No way should a Christian repent! Well said brother. Scripture teaches that evil will just get worse and worse until the Savior returns and sets up His kingdom. Until then, He is my King and He reigns in my heart and America or any other place on this earth is simply a temporary dwelling place. I am to consider myself to be a stranger and an alien in this fallen world; to act as salt and light and to do my King's bidding in all areas of life. But the rest is up to Him. He will build His church and return in his perfect timing.
I hope to address the main questions/points directed toward me. First of all, I am not saying being a Republican is a sin. What I meant by repentance was those who supported Mitt Romney, a moderate politician and Bishop in the LDS cult who continued to "evolve" (flip-flop) in this campaign up until the very end; a man who threw Presbyterian Elder Todd Akin under the bus for taking a Biblical view on prenatal child-killing of those conceived in rape. You can thank the Romney camp for Sen. Claire McCaskil's re-election. Now, as far as third parties goes, I don't have any unrealistic expectations for a Christian Party. I realize we live in an anti-Christ culture and Christians have become marginalized. But there is a need to build for the future and to take a moral, Christian stand now through Christian political efforts and parties. Regarding Lurker's article on Puritans and Pilgrims - I suppose I fall into the Puritan camp with a good measure of the Scottish Covenanters mixed in.
As a followup, I'd like to offer the following link to an article contrasting the differences between PILGRIMS AND PURITANS. Both were/are beloved sons and daughters of the Most High God but their consciences led them in opposite directions. Was one wrong and the other right?
In similar fashion, your conscience leads you to Christian political activism while others, myself included, believe Christians should exercise our civic right and duty to vote but beyond that consider ourselves pilgrims and strangers in a heathen land; a faithful remnant in the midst of unbelievers.

Generally speaking and in this specific election, a vote for a third party candidate only helps the sitting president. It is possible in a race this tight that had the third party voters gone with Romney, he may have won the popular vote. He still would have lost the election.
America is becoming more liberal, and for conservatives like myself, all we can do is wait and pray. This election was touted as being one of the most important in our lifetimes. The conversation can't change in to 'bidness as usual' 'we'll get 'em next time' just because 'our side' lost. Obama is probably going to be able to replace more than one supreme court justice, and with that America really will change and not for the better.
Last point for now. Concerning change and third parties. Many pundits now call for the Republicans to come more 'center' and compromise on the abortion issue under the veiled name of women's rights. I do hope for compromise but not on this issue. Because of the electoral college it looks like some sort of mandate for the democrats. The media will surely say so, but the reality is that the country is about 50/50. Half of the country does stand for traditional values. If Republicans decide to embrace abortion then I will vote third party. Waste of vote or not.

I generally find your posts refreshing but...
1) What would you have us repent of? Have you considered that some of us did not vote *for* Romney but rather voted *against* Obama?
2) I believe I correctly identified what motivated Jim leading up to this election. If I am mistaken he certainly has the right to set me straight and I will apologize.
3) False caricature. The faith and hope of real Christians will always be Christ alone.
4) A pipe dream. Even if it were possible, in time it would be as fractured as Protestant Christendom now is.
And then there is the reality that a Christian political party would need the support of the majority heathens in this country in order to elect a candidate to high political office. Can a political party succeed where the church has failed?
