After Obama’s Decision on Marriage, a Call to Pastors
About two hours after declaring his support for same-sex marriage last week, President Obama gathered eight or so African-American ministers on a conference call to explain himself. He had struggled with the decision, he said, but had come to believe it was the right one.
The ministers, though, were not all as enthusiastic. A vocal few made it clear that the president’s stand on gay marriage might make it difficult for them to support his re-election.
“They were wrestling with their ability to get over his theological position,” said the Rev. Delman Coates, the pastor of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Md., who was on the call....

"Blacks mostly voted Republican from after the Civil War and through the early part of the 20th century. That’s not surprising when one considers that Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president, and the white, segregationist politicians who governed Southern states in those days were Democrats. The Democratic Party didn’t welcome blacks then, and it wasn’t until 1924 that blacks were even permitted to attend Democratic conventions in any official capacity. Most blacks lived in the South, where they were mostly prevented from voting at all.
The election of Roosevelt in 1932 marked the beginning of a change. He got 71 percent of the black vote for president in 1936 and did nearly that well in the next two elections, according to historical figures kept by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. But even then, the number of blacks identifying themselves as Republicans was about the same as the number who thought of themselves as Democrats ......." http://www.factcheck.org/2008/04/blacks-and-the-democratic-party/
Gods abundunt blessings have led many Christians in the West to include 'civil rights' as part of their charitible giving to their neighbor. These Brethren have been beguiled by those who crave the praise of men rather than the praise of God.
I have several such friends to whom I remind them that Law that is written in their hearts includes obligations to God as well as their neighbor.

I switched political affiliation from Democrat to Republican because I could not keep voting for Democrat politicians who are Pro Abortion and Pro Homosexuality.

I am so grieved that the politically-correct view of "tolerance" (which is completely intolerant of Christianity, by the way) has crept into so many churches. We have a responsibility, Christians, to call sin, sin! If we do not, we are not acting to extend grace; we are ensuring condemnation to those we simply "tolerate." Preach the Gospel; the greatest sin-destroyer; no Gospel is adequate without repentance of sin. We must preach the Word of Truth in love and be unwavering in our convictions. If people have a problem with that, my friends, their problem is with God and must answer to Him. As ministers and teachers of the Word, we are held to an even higher standard. As such, I would not want to be a man who puts his thoughts and his ways above God's. I cringe at the thought of the "tolerant" Christians standing before our Lord on that day of judgment. We may tolerate sin, but He will most certainly not.
To the commentator 'Overflowing Grace', thank you for your informative comment on Andy Stanley and I do agree with you about it is a growing problem with these churches. Shameful! I am determine to be stedfast in prayer that there will ministers who have courage and integrity to continue to follow God's way and not a mere man--an example, the president.
Three weeks prior to Obama announcing his support of same-sex marriage, he received a tip of the hat from none other than Andy Stanley, Dr. Charles Stanley's son.
In Andy's message, "Part 5: When Gracie Met Truthy," he shares a story about his 24,000 member church.
Trying to foster a broken family's love during the Christmas season, Stanley invited an openly-gay couple to sit on the front row of his church, but never called them to repent of their sin.
Without an immutable teaching against homosexuality, all churches --- big or small --- will fall into this grace trap.
