Harold Camping Admits Sin, Announces End to Doomsday Predictions
After numerous failed doomsday predictions, Family Radio founder Harold Camping announced this month that he has no plans to predict ever again the day of God's Judgment. He also issued an apology to listeners, admitting that he was wrong.
"We have learned the very painful lesson that all of creation is in God's hands and He will end time in His time, not ours!" a statement on Family Radio's website reads. "We humbly recognize that God may not tell His people the date when Christ will return, any more than He tells anyone the date they will die physically."...
Water still came out of the rock when Moses disobeyed by striking it, but Moses did have to face up to the consequences of his actions. Whatever good has come from Camping's mispredictions, regardless of what good he claims, are in spite of what he did, not because of it. Doubtless, Camping himself is experiencing, and may yet experience, consequences from God for what he has done. He can be forgiven, but, as David with Bathsheba, must live with what he has done.
I am sure they have lost literally millions of dollars in worldwide donations since last year and may be near bankruptcy.
Camping's group may think they can return some of their revenue if they post an apology.
I don't believe they are truly sorry because they posted a pathetic calvinist statement trying to justify the whole scenario as being part of God's plans, saying
"THOUGH we were wrong God is still using the May 21 warning in a very mighty way...discussing about the Bible can never be a bad thing, even if the Bible's authenticity is questioned or ridiculed. The world's attention has been called to the Bible..."
"Yet this incorrect and sinful statement ALLOWED GOD to get the attention of a great many people who otherwise would NOT have paid attention... God.. USED OUR SIN to accomplish His purpose of making the whole world acquainted with the Bible."
That is like saying God was using the demon possessed woman that followed Paul to lead people to Jesus, I guess that is why Paul got sick of her preaching and cast out her demon instead then right.
I was saved under this man's ministry nearly 20 years ago. What a joy to see this man repent! Truly an answer to prayer and a much needed shot of encouragement for me at this time.
Our God is an amazing god! He has the ability to use all things, good and bad to further his kingdom. To say that he can not have used Harold Camping is to place our limits and expectations on God. We can never assume to know what God is doing and who he is using to develope his plan.
Here we go again. This publicity hound just can't help himself, apparently.Even goes so far as to say that his false prophesy was used to advance the cause of Christ.I,for one,do not believe that God uses lies and deceit to draw believers to Himself, and to claim such a thing is blasphemous.
All this does,in effect,is to show unbelievers and God-haters how right their thinking about "Christians" really is.
Harold camping,in reality,is no different than a politician caught in a lie. He's just trying to spin the "story",and do as much damage control as possible.Besides the publicity was waning and he needs to stay in the spotlight as much as possible.Like I said,
Zechariah 7:9 "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. In that sense Let us remember who we were, and have been at times. Not false teachers, true, but sinners, yes. With that in perspective we can combat any feelings of self-righteousness. If the man is sorry, he could be, only God can judge his heart. It is our job to forgive him, correct him, and build him up. Any words that slander his person, are unwholsome...However we can say, in all confidence that picking dates is false teaching, and anti-biblical. Lets hope (and PRAY) that this man is truely repentant.
I respect except his admitting he was wrong i forgive him, unlike most if not all media miniters that are still on TV and Radio that made predictions in the past they have no reget at all, we need to call Louder for their repentance.
yes, John, is also a pity that he didn't pay attention to everything that's in the Bible:
Matthew 25 11 "And later the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, lord, open up for us.' 12 "But he answered and said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.' 13 "Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.---NASB
I wonder what Mr. campaign is going to do with all of his ill-gotten gains?
So he FINALLY acknowledges his obsession with date-setting.
Better late than never, I guess.
Funny how obsession can blind even the most faithful from what God's word plainly teaches (Matt 24:36). Even after being admonished by Joab, of all people, David was so obsessed with how many people he had that he ordered the census to be taken anyway, even though he knew it was wrong.
