Winning the lottery: Does it guarantee happiness?
She was a mother of three living in a small apartment and working four jobs. And then, as if in a fairy tale, she won her state's lottery last year. But the story doesn't have the happy ending you might expect.

She didn't do anything overly extravagant after the $1.3 million got slashed in taxes. She bought a house, got a new wardrobe at the Salvation Army, cut work down to just one job and invested the rest.

And then came the phone calls: promises, marriage proposals, accusations, threats. People who used to volunteer to help her do things wanted money for their trouble. Family members, she says, tried to run her life, and control her money. ...

Haha, nope.

The owner of a bar in town won the lottery. Still, pesky "kids" where smoking outside the bar, the store owner next doors four year old son through a rock through the window, and I pee'd in the alleyway outside the bar (and got screamed at...Lord forgive me.) and all of that pretty much happened in the same day.

Quite correct, Woteth, and to correct my my ancient speech recognition program, "are" was suppose to be "her"

Oh, by the way, Acts 1:26 if one wants to look up th rest of the Barnes Commentary, which is really quite good on this topic of casting lots,

See what happens when you worship mammon.

1Tim 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Albert Barnes wrote:
The habit of appealing to it [the lot] engenders the love of hazards and of games; leads to heart-burnings, to jealousies, to envy, to strife, and to dishonesty. Still less does the example of the apostles authorize games of hazard, or lotteries, which are positively evil, and attended with ruinous consequences, apart from any inquiry about the lawfulness of the lot. They either originate in, or promote, covetousness, neglect of regular industry, envy, jealousy, disappointment, dissipation, bankruptcy, falsehood, and despair. What is gained by one is lost by another, and both the gain and the loss promote some of the worst passions of man: boasting, triumph, self-confidence, indolence, dissipation, on the one hand; and envy, disappointment, sullenness, desire of revenge, remorse, and ruin, on the other. God intended that man should live by sober toil. All departures from this great law of our social existence lead to ruin.
This lady seems to have behaved sensibly in her lottery winnings. It is a pity that she couldn't keep her identity confidential. This is really not a lot of money for her and are three children -- at least by modern standards.
