He talked of the need for society to develop understanding and find strength in diversity to help overcome "dangerous prejudice".

The Prince was speaking at a reception hosted by The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, a recognised independent Centre of Oxford University.

The Prince said the great faiths needed to concentrate on what they shared in common rather than "an obsession with the differences between them" and the chasms that creates.

He added: "The future surely lies in rediscovering the universal truths that dwell at the heart of these religions. ...

The value and worth of any religion is revealed by its effect upon life. Expressions of belief, be they ever so beautiful and perfect, are meaningless and without value if they fail to make beautiful and more perfect the lives of those whose belief they seem to voice. This is the test Christ puts, upon creed and religion as applied to His own followers, and the standard of performance has never been improved upon. The value of a religion cannot be measured by its influence upon the life of the individual believer only, for every adequate. religion must take into consideration communities of men and women, living in relation to each other....

GOD does not agree.
Why send your Beloved Son *IF* there is an alternative to the Crucified Christ????????
But since the UK is now founded upon the religion of Satan which is called Liberalism, Who really cares about what God wrote on the subject.
Mans greatest error about religion is to be convinced that it is just a matter of intellectual assent.
Of course the Lord will tell them to, "Go to hell" on judgment day anyway.
I've heard about bridges to nowhere. Maybe that's what the Prince is talking about.

"As inhabitants of this country we all have a role to play in shaping our society on the basis of one fundamental principle and that is understanding."

* Pray tell...how does one know, rather, how does a group of people know WHEN 'understanding' has been achieved?

This kind of foolish talk reminds me of the 'goals' that I had to pursue as a paraprofessional in public schools.

"The future surely lies in rediscovering the universal truths that dwell at the heart of these religions."

* If you believe that these 'truths' exist, why not tell us what they are? And, if these truths are KNOWN and are 'universal,' why do they need to be 'rediscovered?' They exist regardless of where humans are in their understanding.

Recalling once again my time in PS: We must allow children to rediscover the joy of reading and ensure a conducive environment that leads to independent pursuits of reading and reading materials that will build upon their growing knowledge of the world around them thus providing society with future leaders who are masters of this earth's destiny.

I'm paraphrasing, of course!
