PCUSA removes 'gay' condemnation from faith document
A committee in the Presbyterian Church (USA) approved on Monday changes to a translated version of a document of the Reformed Christian faith – changes opponents say are a smokescreen effort to remove a negative reference to homosexual behaviour.

PC(USA) commissioners and delegates at their biennial General Assembly went into nearly seven hours of debate on overtures, or resolutions, that called for changes to the 1962 Miller-Osterhaven translation of the Heidelberg Catechism. Much of the controversy revolved around a reference to "homosexual perversion" that is not found in the original German text.

Written in the 16th century, the Heidelberg Catechism has been translated into many languages and the PC(USA) adopted in 1967 the Miller-Osterhaven version in its Book of Confessions. Opponents of the current translation say the original text and all subsequent translations do not contain any ...

Jim, many of the churches in the first 3-4 centuries were home churches due to persecution... & that's a coming! Those who worship in many home churches have the Holy Spirit, not just the human sp.

From a letter to this type of assembly:
"...I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead... "
and to another of like mind:
"3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. "
Rev 3

Lost 300 Average congregations(200 members)in`07'!

The Presbyterian Church (USA) lost 57,572 members in 2007, the worst decline in decades, according to the official statistics released by Stated Clerk Clifton Kirkpatrick on Saturday.
....Kirkpatrick's office projects even higher losses in 2008 and 2009.
can it be that PCUSA means
"Politically Correct United Sodomites Assembled" ???

This is the group that trained me that the Bible is a collection of myths, that evolution is true, and that there are many paths to god...(this was back in the 70's, in the PCUSA High School 'training' books...
which I still have.
God's grace rescued me from this corruption. When I think of the great Godly Presbyterian true church, it makes me sad. Good to know that the TRUE Church can't be corrupted..
"...upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it...Mat.16"
"...that Rock was Christ."1 Cor.10.

Mark M., on the whole home churches are a bad idea, The Westburo Baptist Church is nothing more than a home/clan church, e.g., Westboro Baptist Church : Fred Phelps gives you a history of one "home" church. You need a board of elders who aren't relatives of the minister. The Truth Behind The Church's Purpose, are not antics to gain publicity or to do social work, q.v., The Church and Social Responsibility.
Are denominations perfect, far from it, are large churches perfect, no, are small churches perfect, no, are home churches perfect, see the above, , but then perfection in people is never achieved until they join the Lord.

Let's hope so. Best thing that could happen.

Committee wants purge of bans on SODOMITES 6/25/8
1. Complete revision of G-6.0106b, the "fidelity/chastity" standard in the Book of Order, so that it no longer mentions the prohibition against ordaining men and women who are sexually active outside of marriage.

2. A new authoritative interpretation that would declare all previous interpretations null and void. The previous interpretations were notable for presenting a Biblical and Reformed understanding of homosexuality.

3. Another authoritative interpretation that would countermand the General Assembly Permanent Judicial Commission's ruling in Bush v. Presbytery of Pittsburgh. That decision essentially said that sessions and presbyteries could not ordain candidates who refused to comply with G-6.0106b.

Several speakers warned the committee that its sweeping actions could have a severe impact on the denomination, with one even suggesting that it could run away thousands of churches.

2Co6:17-18Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,And will be a Father unto you,and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Just another reason that I don't join any particular denomanation. Eventually, "home church" will be just as popular and needed as home school. The act of homosexuality is wrong according to Bible scripture as well as the traditional church. We can not turn a blind eye to the sin, but we should be interested in helping the sinner. If your church refuses to condemn the activities that God calls sin, then it's time to find a new church.

There is no problem with creeds and confessions. "The Bible says..." is the purpose of a confession. So you have started your on confession by saying, "The Bible says....homosexuality is a sin."

The Bible nowhere lists which books are canonical, so by just saying "The Bible says...." you'll never know what the Bible is. Thus a confession and creed provides that information, though obviously it (nor men) have no authority the Bible. To always go by "the Bible says" allows for over-simplistic statements and misuse of texts. i.e. OT dietary laws.

Why should I listen to that link, when that link is not the bible. That sermon becomes an unwritten creed and confession. We all have creeds and confessions, it is just some are written down and some are not.

But....Worse yet wicked sinners will have the gall to not only change confessions, but attempt to re-write Scripture, look at what the kingdom hall and Joseph Smith have done.

Osteen says, "The Bible says" alot and he is warped. So I understand your concern, but would not consider it a solution, but rather an opportunity for confusion to increase.

US presbyterians remove gay condemnation from faith document, this is one problem with creeds and confessions, listen to, Introduction to Colossians, there is no need to got to any of them, The Bible Says Homosexuality is Sin, and that should end all arguments.
