ST. GEORGE, Utah — Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Sunday evening at the age of 97.
"He passed away tonight at 7 p.m. at his home surrounded by his family," church spokesman Robert Howell said Sunday night.
The man revered as a "prophet, seer and revelator" by nearly 13 million Latter-day Saints worldwide served as president, the highest position in the church, since 1995.
Hinckley passed away in his apartment in downtown Salt Lake City from causes incident to age. He had diabetes and underwent surgery in January 2006 for a cancerous growth on his large intestine....
Yes he was a False Prophet and perhaps a blatant liar. But he was a sinner like you and I. And If he is in hell right now we should grieved that another person is eternally separated from God.
I have a question but is not about exactly this topic. A couple of days ago I was walking outside one of their churches and I saw a huge parabolic antenna. That's not common here in Chile (south America), anyone knows what is that antenna for? (mail me please!)
I can understand how anybody, Mormon or otherwise would mourn the loss of someone such as this. However, this should not overshadow some important differences between Mormons and the evangelical churches. I see a great emphasis in the Mormon tradition upon men--new messages from this apostle and that prophet, but what about the truth in the scriptures(excluding the Book of Mormon)? Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free..Righteous by faith, Saved by the name of Christ only, and sanctified by his word alone, all of grace and all to God's glory. Herein is found freedom beyond measure and priceless.
