Indianapolis Public Schools May Ban Jeans, Grills and Impose Uniform
INDIANAPOLIS — Public school students in the state's largest school district will attend classes in uniform if a dress code recommended by a district task force is adopted.
Indianapolis Public Schools officials will present the proposed guidelines on March 22 at the first of five public meetings. The uniform policy will undergo public review before its adoption, the school said.
Superintendent Eugene White assembled a task force in response to complaints from district officials that students were attending school in excessively baggy pants and revealing shirts....
The teachers also wear uniform in most Queensland schools. I don't know about the other states. I think it is a very good idea. It develops a sense of belonging particularly for kids who have difficult home lives, so long as it doesn't become a bone of contention and is comfortable.
As a future school teacher (only 1yr and 1 sem left so if you haven't graduated high school and you live in GA you better get out quick), I like uniforms for these reasons:
1. People act more professionally in uniform. 2. It is hard for the kids to determine the socio-economic standings of their classmates when they all wear the same things. 3. A true uniform makes the kids look less alluring to each other and the staff (a lot of people, I know I'm guilty, like the 'schoolgirl' outfit, but a real uniform is nothing like that kind of thing). It sounds silly but a bland, standard uniform would be in sharp contrast to the street walker gear kids wear today.(I'm for banning or at least limiting make-up too).
As to grillz I think they are the silliest fad that I've ever seen.
