N.Irish talks between Paisley and Adams called off
BELFAST (Reuters) - Britain postponed historic talks between hardline Protestant cleric Ian Paisley and republican foe Gerry Adams on Tuesday in an apparent dispute over policing under a proposed power-sharing government in Northern Ireland.
"It has become clear to me this morning that there are differences," Britain's minister in the province, Peter Hain, said in a statement after an abortive bid to persuade Paisley to sit down with Adams for the first time.
There will now be lower-level negotiations instead....
