Calvary Chapels don't comprise a cult. See on SermonAudio Vincent Sawyer's 5-23-99 message, How to Identify a Cult. I have attended two CCs in recent years. Both taught expositorily from the Bible. One has since begun featuring Purpose Driven and Jesus Calling material. Don't know what its messages are like now. The CC I attend features expository teaching at each service, going through a book verse-by-verse. It vigorously opposes PD and JC error. So much for my self-serving ad. PD and JC serious errors which may bring a cultish result, as both tend to supplant the Bible. Also, are the apostate "mainline denominations" cults? Not so far as I can tell, but that doesn't make them any less dangerous. Anyone concerned about a particular CC may check its bookstore and move on should anything untoward be found. If there is no bookstore, most CCs have websites. And if you are being taught sound, Biblical truth where you are, pray for your pastor and leaders.
Great Sermon! Listening to this sermon several times over the last couple of years has proved indispensable to me. The information in this message has sparked an interest in me to do more research on Thomas Cranmer. I have recently finished a research paper on Cranmer in my Seminary historical theology class. Love this stuff. God bless you Dr. Haykin
Great Sermon! Water baptism though is not without merit, even though it does not save. It is however the pledge of a pure conscience before God that symbolizes the baptism of the Spirit (1Pe3:21), and even in the example that Pastor Hill cites from Acts 16, Paul immediately then baptized the jailor and his family (Acts 16:33), as did Philip with the Ethiopian (Acts 8:38).
Please pray for my son who announced to me recently that he is gay. He knows the truth but is rejecting it. We can never except this lifestyle as anything else but sin. I still love him and pray that God Almighty will convict him of his sin so he will turn from it and repent.
