The promise in this passage undoubtedly belongs to Israel as they come to realize and mourn for the Messiah. They will be filled with tears of repentance as is every other believer who has been brought to see Him. We know the fountain was opened on the Day of Pentecost when many of the Israelites were brought to salvation. Yet, the fountain is opened to all who sorrow and repent and we will see this again in God's ancient people. The Blood of Jesus Christ - God's fountain both propitiates God's wrath and satisfies sin's defilement. His blood has washed us whiter than snow purifying and sanctifying every child of God - both Jew and Gentile.
