Jesus called James and John the "Sons of Thunder." It seems as though they both had confrontational and brash personalities. One one occasion, they offered to "call down fire from Heaven" to a man who was rude to them. Jesus rebuked them. Both they and their mother wanted the two brothers to be the most prominent men in Jesus's kingdom. Again, they were rebuffed. Though brash, they truly loved the Lord and would give their lives in service to Him. James would be the first apostle to be martyred. John would be persecuted and banished to Patmos in his old age. The Sons of Thunder, learned humility and grace from the Lord who gave them their name.
