In 1 Kings 10, we learn about the high cost of imitation, or hypocrisy. While King Solomon created items with pure gold, his son Rehoboam created items that were of lesser value, made of bronze.
The original items had been taken by an enemy and instead of simply letting the people of Israel feel shame for that because of their failure to trust in God, Rehoboam supplied them with cheap imitations, possibly thinking that when the guards marched, no one would notice the difference in the bright sunlight!
What took place between King Solomon's prayer of commitment to God and his son's failure to live up to that commitment where God was concerned?
Rehoboam succumbed to the temptation to take the easiest road because of politics.
The same temptation exists for us today where we have the choice of confessing our sin before God, trusting Him for the strength to do what is right, or giving into cultural demands.
