Many people speak of "accepting Jesus" or "asking Jesus into their heart" but this terminology is not found anywhere in the word of God. Peter said, "if any man speak let him speak as the oracles of God" (I Peter 4:11a) Should we not rather speak about our salvation as God has spoken about it in his word? More troubling is the notion of those who say they've "accepted Jesus" who reject His teaching. There is a great blessing waiting for a disciple who is willing to press into a better understanding of salvation than the distorted view offered up by the broader religious world. That better understanding involves the notion of "acceptance" alright, but it's not the acceptance that many have been taught.
