We come now to one of the most glorious chapters in all of Scripture. However, since it is so closely connected with the previous chapter, I will actually begin there with this sermon. The text has a marvelous flow to it, in which Judah's problem is presented, and then the divine remedy is then revealed. In truth there is only one solution to the problem, and it is the same solution that every sinner stands in need of. Following that we have the purpose of God portrayed, and then the outcome indicated. Since the purposes of God cannot be thwarted, the outcome is absolutely certain. Furthermore, the outcome is always glorious for the people of God. This was intended to be an encouragement for the people of God in their exile in Babylon. Though they were under divine judgment, it would not last forever. Their deliverance would eventually come, and they would be restored in their land. But in this text the Lord testifies continually about Himself, and His testimony must be taken seriously. He is the only true and living God, and He is the only Savior. He Himself has said so, and He must be believed today!
