Go Bury Your Underwear
What did God tell Jeremiah to do in Chapter 13?
The two trips, there and back twice, over a 1,000 miles, to illustrate a message with dirty underwear.
Did God have good reason for this?
Yes!
Does always have to make sense at the time?
No!
Does God ever do anything or send His people to do something accidentally?
No!
When God sends you, is it too extravagant or ridiculous or insignificant or costly, no matter what the assignment is?
No!
Do we have to risk our reputations at times?
Yes!
What was the message, the point of the illustration? His people, like the defiled and rotten underwear, had become unprofitable, or good for nothing eternally, and God was going to use the Babylonians to destroy Jerusalem and displace the people.
"This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is good for nothing. For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me, says the Lord, 'that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory (an ornament of beauty that possess a significant message), but they would not hear." (Jeremiah 13:10-11)
