#1. God can do whatever He wants. If you can't accept that, you can't really accept His Lordship. People seem to think God is manipulated by our opinion. God's decision making process does not include, "I wonder what Benje would think of this?" It's not like a church board, "if we do that then the Smith family might leave the church, and they are tithers" God doesn't sit down with the high Angel council in heaven and try to make sure His decisions do not offend anyone. Does God say something because it is true or is it true because God said it? Does God do something because it is right or is it right because He does it? He is the author of truth. The author of right. It originates with Him. If His call is, "come follow me and I will make you fishers of men. You will be despised because of me. You will lose all of your earthly possessions and you will appear to be a fool to all who know you." Does that seem like an appealing altar call message? It is actually pretty close to the call He gave many in scripture. (Preface: Jesus just gave the eat my flesh and drink my blood speech, which is very much about sharing in His sufferings and being totally given to Him. Earlier in John 6 He spoke of how the works of God are to believe on He whom He has sent.)
