After ratifying the covenant with the sons of Israel, God called Moses to again ascend Mount Sinai to receive two stone tables containing His "law and commandment." Moses had written the words of the covenant in a book; Yahweh was going to inscribe the covenant's summarizing "Ten Words" on stone tablets for Moses to give to His covenant "son." But before providing him with the tablets, the Lord spent forty days instructing Moses concerning a sanctuary to be built for Him along with a mediating priesthood that would serve Him in connection with it. This sermon introduces that instruction by considering the relation of the tabernacle/priesthood to the Sinai Covenant and the role they were to play in Israel's life under the covenant.
