Mark presents Jesus's election of some people, His rejection of others and His singling out of a group who was the object of His affection
God' election is not based on talent, performance or potential
1. The basis of Jesus' election was his own desire a) He chose those whom he desired b) V13 this is where God's sovereignty, effectual calling, and human will, interact at the same time without conflict or contradiction. c) Psalm 110:3
2. Jesus' rejection of others a) v 22-31 The unpardonable sin b) Jesus humble himself to the uttermost - Heb 2:17/4:15 c) walked in the power of the Spirit - Lk 4:14/John 3:34 d) The heinousness of the sin was saying that the Holy Spirit was the devil
3. Jesus' affection:those who do God's will a) V 33-25 - For Jesus, family started with God and then those with those who do His will b) Jesus' affection toward people was driven by His love to the father - Ps 16:1-3 c) God's will starts with His Son - Jn 6:40
This is the wonder of the Gospel Story, Jesus went to the cross, to pay the debt contracted by His family!
