It is true that the gift of God which is eternal life, is indeed a free gift: by faith alone, in Christ alone, by grace alone. It is also true in another sense that salvation "costs us everything". Take forinstance the Apostle Paul: his salvation was all of grace surely. But just as surely--"I will show him how many things he musty suffer for My name's sake". And suffer he did. Paul's salvation was in that sense costly: unearned, but costly. So also the man born blind referenced in John chapter nine. His glorious grace-obtained-spiritual eye sight cost him dearly. Contrary to what Rick Warren proposes, and what Billy Graham proposed, conversion is still arduous, and spiritual eyesight is still costly.
