Paul warned that false teaching would arise, wherein teachers would prohibit marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created for us to enjoy. Today, we consider the false teaching concerning food. The truth about food is made very plain in the text. Everything created by God (which refers to all food) is good. It is to be received with gratitude. Nothing is to be rejected. The lie is that there is some spiritual gain in abstaining from certain foods. The first wave of falsehood in this regard was the Judaizers, who sought to lure Christians back into the dietary law of the OT. The second wave was the Roman Catholic teaching, wherein certain foods were banned on certain holy days in order to be more spiritual. The modern wave is a back door entrance through a concern for good health and proper nutrition. It might seem like only a physical concern, but it's actually more sinister than that. Some teachers, such as Jordan Rubin and Don Colbert, have emerged to tell us what God's plan for us is regarding the proper diet. Then we will find "wholeness" and "wellness." Ultimately, it is the same false gospel all over again. A false sin (eating bad). A false curse (bad health). A false savior (eating right by following the likes of Rubin and Colbert, and others).
