We have an imperative, a command, that we are dealing with this morning. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.
When a Christian does not act like what they are in Christ. The Holy Spirit, God Himself is grieved.
So how do I not grieve the Holy Spirit? We have a summary in verses 31-32

2. If we do not want to Grieve the Holy Spirit We Must Put On Christ-likeness v32
a. Kind
b. Tenderhearted / Compassionate
c. Forgiveness
The Character of the believer is one who will be kind, compassionate and forgiving. They put away all bitterness,anger, wrath, clamor, slander, and malice.
Are the virtues you have because of the Holy Spirit pushing out these ungodly attitudes? Or are you filling yourself with the flesh and grieving God Himself?
Ephesians 4:30-32 (NASB95) Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kid to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.
