In the sermon today I will preach the third of three sermons that have been related to the Christmas holiday. I have developed the theme of the person of Christ, and will highlight in this third sermon His earthly mission as The Servant of the Lord. In the introduction I not only reiterate the theme of the previous two sermons, but I state the challenge that atheists have presented to our society for this holiday season. This will become important again in the conclusion to the sermon. From there I will expose some of the misunderstandings about Christ's mission in the world, especially as they relate to the modern scene. In doing so I also expose what the various views have in common, and how those erroneous conclusions came to be. I will then state the biblical view of Christ's mission, supporting and defending it from various texts. The real heart of the sermon is in the con-clusion when I appeal, in response to the atheists, for the right use of reason with the biblical data given to us. The problem isn't that Christians fail to reason, but that unbelievers fail to believe the revelation of God, which results in their failure to connect their true need with God's remedy. May God bless His holy word!
