We have a tendency to think that “talents” is referring only to things like the ability to preach, teach, or sing. It’s about making the most of opportunities. It is about using the abilities and resources God has given you for the advancement of His Kingdom. Sheetrock. Mechanics, motorcycle racing. Everything has the potential to bring opportunities. Today is someday. “someday I will do this.” Everyone’s life branches out and touches a certain number of other people. We can dispense grace… As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10 KJV As every man has received the gift…. What gift? What is a steward? (someone who has been entrusted to take care of something)
You have been entrusted with abilities, opportunities, talents. Sharing the Gospel often requires that one be willing to invest in someone’s life. It often requires that you put yourself out there. Don’t be discouraged because you have invested in someone’s life and it didn’t seem to pay off. Pray that God will give you opportunities, and the wisdom to recognize them. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33 KJV Okay, this is in the context of physical needs. Here is the thing, to seek His Kingdom means we don’t seek our own. You really can’t seek your own Kingdom and His Kingdom at the same time, unless you have truly allowed Him to change your heart and priorities. It still is not our Kingdom though. Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord.
