Jerusalem is personified as a woman forsaken and alone. "She did not consider her destiny; therefore her collapse was awesome" (Lam 1.9). No one comforted her (1.2, 9, 16-17, 21). She found no rest (1.3). We find ourselves suffering. Will we maintain a firm belief in God's sovereignty, omniscience, righteousness, and goodness? Do we understand that destruction may come suddenly, violently, irreversibly, and eternally? Is it possible that my pain and grief are meant to point me to God and not away from Him? |
