Returning to the very practical book of James, we are looking today at faith under trial—will it stand?
We see first that our responsibility is in a believing heart—that heart that trusts in God. In trials, it’s our trust in God that drives us first to his Word, our primary source of wisdom.
We’ll also look at the example of Job, a man whose extreme trial is a source of many lessons for us. We learn that we need to run to God first in a trial, and that a trial may be solely for the glory of God—not in exchange for something we have done.
Prayer is key in trials, and here we need to learn the simple lesson of what is simple: ask, receive. So often we don’t ask and prefer to be independent. Let us rather, as James, says, ask without doubting and receive the wisdom we need for life’s trials—knowing God’s using these difficult times for his own good purposes and ours.
