That wonderful London Based organisation, Christian Concern, have placed several videos on their YouTube page, in which Peter Benjamin gives his testimony. This testimony packs a punch, and clearly Peter is doing this because he believes passionately that both he and other persons who have expressed transgender beliefs have been badly let down by the system, and especially by the medical profession. A short introductory video of Peter is here:

Peter’s passion for his subject, and for his Saviour comes through clearly. I have both met Peter and heard him give his testimony in person. Peter alleges that when he was in a very vulnerable state, and thought that his life would be fine if he underwent radical surgery to make him a “woman”, he was simply put through the system without any real questioning whether this was a genuine answer to his problems.
He alleges that, when he went to a transgender support group, he was told by the professional in charge that he was a woman. Then, when he went to see a psychiatrist, he was diagnosed as healthy when in fact he was suffering with alcohol problems and anxiety and depression. Then he was rapidly moved through the surgical system without any real question of the reality of his situation. Peter believes that he, and many others like him have been sorely let down by the system. He cares that this does not happen to other people in a similar situation.
As a medical professional myself, I am deeply concerned that this kind of thing is happening to patients. It is not my place to say what the motives of the health professionals treating Peter was, but they did not appear to provide a high standard of care, in my personal opinion.
In my own work I see staff, who do not believe that a person can change sex, being forced to accept at face value what a person says about their sex. Whilst feeling strongly about this, I note that very few are willing to challenge such a notion. Some, I believe, have been warned, that if they speak up, they will not only lose their jobs, but may never work again.
Now, I am willing to accept that, possibly, some of the above practitioners involved in Peter’s “care” believed (wrongly) that they were acting in his best interests, and others may have been doing it for the money, or other motives. The real problem, however, lies in the fact that we are all now working in a climate of fear. I know, because I have worked in such a climate, and I have had to pay the price for stating my beliefs.
Who would dare to challenge the assertions of a man like Peter Benjamin that he felt like a woman in a man’s body? Yet what Peter needed was the right kind of help, and never surgery. Watch Peter tell his own amazing story in the videos. The sad thing is that neither doctors nor nurses feel free to speak up or challenge such notions. Not even when it is clearly in the best interests of the patient?
From the video, Peter shares the great concern of many that what happened to him as an adult is now being pushed on young children.
Finally, we delight to hear Peter’s testimony to his Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the power of God that has been at work in his life. This is the same power that is at work in the hearts of all those who put their trust in Him for their salvation.
David.
