Can a Christian drink and thrive? That is a very controversial topic in the Christian community – one that many preachers refuse to touch. People ask, “Well, what’s wrong with a little social drinking?” My question is, “What’s right with it?” Absolutely nothing. My conviction on this evil pitfall is strong because those who consume it tend to be overtaken before they even realize what is happening.

Not convinced? Let’s look at some pros and cons of alcohol consumption. The pros: you may feel more accepted by your unsaved family, get along better with your boss, and feel more accepted at work for a period. Perhaps you will enjoy the taste and the ability to forget life’s problems for a while.

The cons: There is a very strong possibility you will take your life or someone else’s life in a drunk driving incident, harm your spouse or children due to your intoxication, become addicted, and in addition, lose your testimony and credibility.

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Liquor may have many defenders but no defense.”

You may be on the fence today about drinking. Whether you are worried that you are missing out or will have to endure mockery, don’t hang on to the lie that drinking will make your life better. Friend, look at the statistics. Don’t be deceived by the devil. The cons far outweigh the pros. A Christian cannot drink and thrive.
