More Than Head Knowledge
When a person is called from death unto life, when they exchange the darkness for the light, when they come to the realization that they are able to walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death, rather than remain under the power of death, there is another view of life that comes clearly into view. As they grow in their walk with Christ, it becomes increasingly apparent that there is more to life than work and play, family and friends, me and mine.
If there is any curiosity at all, if there is any hunger, if there is any burning within them, they will begin to study the Word, not for the approval of others but to learn more of the God whom they wish to know.
For there is a type of knowledge of God that is not saving; James says, “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-and tremble!” The Psalmist says “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
We should understand that while salvation allows us to access the throne room of God, it does not change the essence of God Himself. He is still holy beyond holy, righteous beyond righteousness, the majesty beyond all majesties. Realize that when we say that our God is an awesome God, we must remember what it is to be in awe.
A.W. Tozer stated, “The doctrine of justification by faith-a Biblical truth and a blessed relief from sterile legalism and unavailing self-effort, has in our time fallen into evil company and been interpreted by many in such a manner as actually bar men from the knowledge of God. The whole transaction of religious conversion has been made mechanical and spiritless. Faith may now be exercised without a jar to the moral life and without embarrassment to the Adamic ego. Christ may be ‘received’ without creating any special love for him in the soul of the receiver. The man is ‘saved’, but he is not hungry or thirsty after God. In fact he is specifically taught to be satisfied, and encouraged to be content with little.”
Make sure that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that your faith is real, and not merely put on like a coat for show.
