Reflections While Reading

Very soon after the judgment was passed upon David by Nathan, the trouble began in David's house. Amnon raped his half sister Tamar. Then, Absalom killed his brother Amnon because of his sin against Tamar.

In the upcoming passages, David will make some difficult decisions. He is not always wise in his choices. They will affect his life. When we make decisions, we do not always realize the impact they will have in our life. Yet some decisions which we think to be small, can have huge impact on us for the rest of our life. This is why we need to seek the wisdom of God in all things.

Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

David allowed Absalom to run to Geshur. Absalom stayed there to be protected from judgment for the murder of his brother Amnon. After 3 years David allowed Absalom to return home. This begins a series of events which allows Absalom to gain significance. Ultimately, Absalom will rebel against David.

David is finding out, "your sin will find you out." David is finding out the promise of God's judgment is true. He will also find out that no matter how dark the day seems, God will not forsake him. David will suffer greatly because of his sin with Bathsheba. However, God never leaves David.

Be thankful today that in the midst of suffering, God is always present. Even if your suffering is because of the judgment of God against your sin.
