Farmers around my area are harvesting corn and soy beans. The temperature is getting cooler and the stink bugs have invaded my home so I know fall is here. The crops that are being harvested were not just planted a month ago. No, these crops were planted in spring and early summer. Did you know that when you plant corn kernels you reap ears of corn? Yep, plant corn; get corn. Deep truth, right??! So why if we are smart enough to know corn yields more corn do we not realize that what we plant with our choices and habits will yield a harvest as well? Years ago we were stationed at Yongsan Army Garrison in Seoul, Korea. Our oldest boy was just about to turn seven when God blessed us with another son. Some of you may be able to empathize with me. When you are late into your pregnancy, it takes a large amount of gravitional pull to haul your carcass out of bed. Well one night my boy called for me. I hauled myself out of bed and made my way to his room. This child knew, "Wake mom at your own risk". :-) I planted something that night. It wasn't convenient for me to get out of bed, but I entered his room with a gentle tone in my voice. He said, "I just wanted to be near you." I reaped immediately what I had planted. My boy simply needed his mamma by his side. It didn't take long to plant that seed but oh how sweet the reaping. In Korea, we had house mosquitoes. I mean literally we were warned and told when the lights go out they come out! They sold wall plug-ins that had a repellant strip. Well the first night in our apartment I turned the lights out and immediately I felt bites on any exposed skin. I had failed to turn on the bug repellant plug-ins! I failed to heed the warning and I immediately reaped the consequence. Both choices were done in the dark where no on could see. I planted two types of seeds, and I reaped two kinds of harvest. God tells us in Luke 8:17 "For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad." When we fail to heed God's warnings, our sinful choices lead to sinful habits that lead to disastrous harvests. On 9/15/19 Pastor Chris preached a sermon entitled "What Are You Planting?". Today your day will be full of choices which is why having a daily time of Bible reading and prayer is so crucial. We are all farmers. What are YOU planting today?
