Every so often you will read of someone who claims to have seen God. Whether it is someone who claims to have had a near-death experience where they went to heaven and came back, or someone who claims that God visited them in their living room, these experiences usually have one thing in common. Those involved usually claim to have casually stood around and talked with God.

Any time we see in the Scriptures an instance of a human being seeing the glory of God, they are filled with fear and trembling. Even the seraphim veil their eyes in the presence of the infinite holy God. They must cover themselves and continually cry “Holy, holy, holy.” Yes, God is majestic and powerful, but He is also perfect and holy.

When we consider the infinite holiness of God, it should bring us to where Isaiah was – woe is me for I am a man of unclean lips. God wants to be your Abba, your Father, but He is not your best buddy. He is holy to the highest degree. His holiness creates such glory that we can’t even stand in his presence.

A proper understanding of God’s infinite holiness will prevent you from engaging in the foolishness of questioning or arguing with Him. If you are struggling with understanding what God is doing in your life, ask Him to help you to see His holiness. You will begin to see that a God Who is so holy will only do what is best for you.
