John for JESUS wrote: John UK... It is pretty black and white. I just am trying to understand how you don't see it. I'm curious. There have been many people who have lived their lives alone and they have an opportunity to be used greatly by God, as I believe you have had the chance to be and are doing! Alot of married folk don't have time to preach on the street corner because of family obligations. Marriage, in some ways, can limit what people can do for Christ. As Paul makes mention of. If every sinner were converted at 14, it doesn't mean they must remain single. Paul only said it was better. One of the reasons is, the time was short back then. How much shorter is it now? There is a context to what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 7, and this he alludes to in verse 26 viz. the present distress. This does not seem to figure in your thinking of his recommendation to remain single. |

John UK wrote: Thank you brother, it partly answers, although all in context seems to be referring to a local church. As Mr Spurgeon said, "Let us all be true to one another, and true to Christ; and as soon as we perceive an error, though it is only the shadow of one, let us root it out and drive it from us, lest it plague the whole body, and allow the entire fabric of the church to be affected with leprosy. No peace with sin. No peace with false doctrines. War, war, war without deliberation: war forever with error and deceit!" Sure, I welcome admonishment from brethren, just as I hope Presby welcomes my admonishment of his heretical "election by genealogy" theory. Mind you, any admonishment ought really to be done tenderly, with compassion and the grace of God, earnestly desiring the spiritual good of the other, rather than Bible-bashing him over the head, hoping for a knockout. There is an excellent article on this duty at the Met Tab ]] 7 pillars of counsellingHope this sheds further light. |

John UK wrote: Helps, what exactly do you mean by this, that I not misunderstand? Good morning bro.Firstly, thanks for a good question. Secondly, I would hope that you realise the fallacy of equating the errors of Rome with Eschatological errors. The latter will not jeopardise anyone's soul. But coming directly to your question, we all have a duty to admonish each other. (Romans 15:14; Col 3:16 etc) Vine in his dictionary differentiates between teaching and admonishing as follows: "The difference between 'admonish' and 'teach' seems to be that, whereas the former has mainly in view the things that are wrong and call for warning, the latter has to do chiefly with the impartation of positive truth, cp. Col. 3:16; they were to let the Word of Christ dwell richly in them, so that they might be able (1) to teach and 'admonish' one another, and (2) to abound in the praises of God." The ministry in the Churches is given to impart positive truth, but we all then have a duty to keep each other in line with that truth. In the case of Roman Catholicism we have a 2 fold failure viz. that preachers these days do not teach about its fatal errors, and secondly a failure to admonish people who go soft on the issues. Hope that this helps. |

C.H. Spurgeon continuesEven though it is an error that is in an Evangelical Church, yet we must destroy it. I love all those who love the Lord Jesus Christ, but, nevertheless, I cannot have any truce or any treaty with the numerous errors that have crept into the church, nor would I have you regard them with complacency. We are one in Christ; let us be friends with one another; but let us never be friends with one another’s error. If I am wrong, sternly rebuke me; I can handle it, and handle it cheerfully, and if you are wrong, expect me to do likewise, showing no peace with your errors in doctrine. Let us all be true to one another, and true to Christ; and as soon as we perceive an error, though it is only the shadow of one, let us root it out and drive it from us, lest it plague the whole body, and allow the entire fabric of the church to be affected with leprosy. No peace with sin. No peace with false doctrines. War, war, war without deliberation: war forever with error and deceit! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sadly, very few these days have a stomach to hold believers to account for what they believe. The politically correct thing is to keep silent and pretend that matters are not so serious, and so truth and the church are injured, and thereby Christ is injured! |

Dorcas, indeed. Sad to see its advocates on this board. Continuing with Spurgeon "..All is well with that Church when it is separated from the heretics, and a great gulf is fixed, but all that helps to bridge that gulf will mar her glory and destroy her power. We must have no truce, no treaty with Rome. War! War! War! with her! There cannot be peace. She cannot have peace with us - we cannot have peace with her. She hates the true Church, and we can only say that the hatred is reciprocated. We would not lay a hand on her priests; we would not touch a hair of their heads. Let them be free; but we will attempt to destroy their doctrine from the face of the earth because it is the doctrine of demons. O God, let the Roman Catholic Church perish, let it be consumed in the smoke. We must fight the battles of the Lord against every error that pollutes the church. Utterly slay them; let no error escape the sword. “Fight the battles of the Lord.” TBC. |

C.H. Spurgeon continues"...Are we doing all we can for Jesus and the gospel? If not, our negligence plays into the hands of priestcraft. What are we doing to spread the Bible, which is the Pope's bane and poison? Are we casting abroad good, sound gospel writings? Luther once said, 'The devil hates goose quills,' and doubtless, he has good reason, for ready writers, by the Holy Spirit's blessing, have done his kingdom much damage. If the thousands who will read this short word this night will do all they can to hinder the rebuilding of his accursed Jericho, the Lord's glory shall speed among the sons of men. Reader, what can you do? What will you do?" From "Evening By Evening" by Charles Spurgeon Then he wrote: Some men’s minds are growing weaker in the battle. I hear them speaking of incorporating certain Roman Catholic beliefs into our Protestantism - and what is that but Roman Catholicism made worse than it was before, by being more despicable and deceivable than even Catholicism itself. Don’t you hear men talk of the Roman Catholics these days and say, “Oh! well, they differ a little from us.” Doesn’t the evangelical party in the Church of England seem at the present moment to embrace some of the Roman Catholic teachings? .. C.H. Spurgeon"Cursed be the man before the Lord, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho." Joshua 6:26 "Since he was cursed who rebuilt Jericho, much more the man who labors to restore Popery among us. In our fathers' days the gigantic walls of Popery fell by the power of their faith, the perseverance of their efforts, and the blast of their gospel trumpets; and now there are some who would rebuild that accursed system upon its old foundations. O Lord, be please to thwart their unrighteous endeavors, and pull down every stone which they build. It should be a serious business with us to be thoroughly purged of every error which may have a tendency to foster the spirit of Popery, and when we have made a clean sweep at home we should seek in every way to oppose its all too rapid spread abroad in the church and in the world. This last can be done in secret by fervent prayer, and in public by decided testimony. We must warn with judicious boldness those who are inclined towards the errors of Rome; we must instruct the young in gospel truth, and tell them of the black doings of Popery in the olden times. We must aid in spreading the light more thoroughly through the land, for priests, like owls, hate daylight." TBC |

SteveR wrote: Picture all the hate in your soul for the RCC and you had a chance to join a holy army to destroy the Vatican. Picture that your dismal life would become worth living if you and your holy brethren win. Picture the depression & despair and feeling of worthlessness vanish as you huddle with fellow fighters...and you might understand what drives them 2 John 1.9 -11 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: for he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. You claim to abide in the doctrine of Christ, with little evidence that it impacts your life in any way, and metaphorically speaking, receive the Pope into your house, though he does not bring the doctrine of Christ, and even wish him God speed. So either you have not God, or are happy to be partaker of the Pope's evil deeds. Taken with your incessant hatred of the true children of God on SA, I would say things look pretty bleak for you. Why are you such a bitter, hateful person, loving evil and hating good? |

Dorcas wrote: Helps UK...is the speaker Peter Masters? Sorry, I should have stated in my original post. The answer to your question is yes, it is Dr Peter Masters of Spurgeon's Metropolitan Tabernacle, London. This was one in a series lamenting the death of persuasive evangelistic preaching in the Reformed tradition. Dr Masters is convinced, rightly so in my opinion, to attribute the demise of such preaching to a wrong view of regeneration. For those who wish to follow the entire series of presentations, the link is ]] Evangelistic Preaching - The Forgotten Imperative This is such an important topic I would encourage all to listen to the series. Ladies and GentlemenRe: Regeneration You are all discussing the subject past each other. May I recommend a sermon which clarifies the subject? ]] Regeneration The modern Reformed position is sadly erroneous, but there is an older reformed position which is more biblical, and the sermon above seeks to clarify the differences. Hope that this helps. |
