The historical fact of Christ's crucifixion, death, and burial is confirmed by extra-Biblical sources but most explicit in the scriptures as to the details of this pivotal point in the history of the world and of redemption. It is in the suffering of the cross we see God's love for his people supremely manifested, as well as the facts that he was the sacrificial ransom for our sins, and the Substitute who bore on the cross our sins and their punishment in our place. The cross clearly reveals that we are saved by God from God and for God. In the cross of Calvary we see God's love for his people displayed by his giving up his Son. He was the Sin-Bearer absorbing all the fury of the wrath of God against our sin. The response of gratitude, devotion, and diligent service is appropriate for us.
