Though the Lord be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly: but the proud He knoweth afar off. ” Psalm 138:6God is high! He his more holy and glorious and superior than we can totally fathom. He is so holy that our sin-tainted selves cannot see Him in His full being and live, at least this side of heaven. He is the powerful Creator, who is in need of nothing, being fully self-sufficient.
But, this God who is so high and great, condescends to minister to and help the humble! The humble are those who have an awareness of their need for God, His forgiveness, wisdom and strength. The humble don’t have all the answers, but know they need God’s word to direct their lives. The humble bow before God’s providence when it deals them difficulties, rather than becoming angry against Him. The humble don’t gloat over their successes, knowing any good thing from them had its origin in God.
What about the proud? God keeps His distance from them. If you don’t want God keeping you at arm’s length, seek His face to give you a genuinely humble heart. He has respect unto such a person!
