Romans 7:1-2

"Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?”

What do we answer those who would put us back under the law, after the LORD Jesus has paid our debt, and redeemed and justified us by His death? Paul doesn’t mince words, or look for a ground of compromise with the legalizers. ‘Know ye not, brethren…’ is a strong reprimand to not even give any consideration to being drawn back under the law, either as a means of salvation or for maintaining it. Yes, until Christ came and paid the debt, God’s elect were debtors to the law, and thereby condemned, because it demands PERFECTION. But even as in the world, laws only apply to the living, and once dead, they are no longer under them, so God’s elect, for whom Christ died. When He died to satisfy God’s law and justice, those for whom He paid the ransom died in Him, and therefore, are forever FREE from the law.
