JD, Your latest post purports to be a reasoned reply to my point regarding Acts 24;15. It is nothing of the kind. All it is is a statement of position regarding the rapture etc. It is virtually a set piece of your approach to "exegesis": i.e. the Dispensational/rapturist system is brought to the text, not derived from it. Is there anything at all in Acts 24:15 which requires a belief in two resurrections separated by a 1000-year period? Nothing at all! Indeed, all that Paul affirms is against such a notion. Moreover, Paul insists to Felix that he is only affirming what his Jewish forbears also affirmed. He brings nothing new. This opens up a study of what Jewish beliefs about the resurrection were. And such is available: there is nothing is the literature e.g. from the Dead Sea Scrolls which indicates at all the type of scenario which you read into the text here. Nor, for that matter, is there anything in the literature of the early church which evidences the Dispensationalist belief you insist on? For you, the historic faith of pre-Christian Judaism, and the ancient Church are of no account. By contrast, you feel free, which Paul clearly did not, to introduce novelty. And novelty is what you would have us believe. |
