We can eat the bread and not feed on Christ. We can drink the wine and not feed on Christ.
As Augustine said - to eat is to believe; to believe is to eat.
In John 6 Jesus speaks of His flesh and blood as real food and drink. He talks about people eating His flesh and drinking His blood. Yet, Jesus describes how His flesh is to be eaten: by believing in Him.
It is not about praying the right prayer; weeping enough tears; using the right liturgy. It is all about Christ Himself.
