Okay, today is May the 2nd. Passing right on by, isn't it? 1 Peter chapter 1, verses 18 and 19 today. We'll get through 1 Peter 1 these days. It was good to have Uncle Travis with us. This past week Brother Robert Fortenberry and his son Eric Hadn't seen Eric since he was a little bitty boy. He's bigger than his daddy now big boy Good to have them and And I've invited Brother Robert to come preach anytime he wanted to. I told him, you don't have to have an invitation. If you show up on a Sunday morning, you just come ready to preach. Brother Robert is a dear, dear brother. And he knows how we believe he will not get off into the charismatic mumbo-jumbo. He'll preach the same things that we preach, probably not election and things like that, but he'll preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. He's a dear brother, and I love him dearly. 1 Peter chapter 1 verses 18 and 19. Let's start and read 17 also because that's where the sentence starts. And if you call on the Father, who without respect to persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear. for as much as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers but with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world but was manifest in these last times for you who by Him do believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory, that your faith and hope might be in God. O our Father, how we thank Thee for the reading of Your Word this day. Please help your servant, Lord, and feed your sheep today. Use me, O God, for your purpose and according to your will. May we expound upon your word that your sheep may be fed. Help us now, dear Lord, this day to be filled with your Spirit. Forgive us where we fail thee. Forgive us of our sins. Please be with my son, Sean, as he's preaching at Goshen today. May you bless Him and help Him as He feeds the sheep there. We ask it in the Lord Jesus' name, Amen. Bought with the precious blood of Christ. Title of the sermon today, Bought with the Precious Blood of Christ, which is according to verse 19, but with the precious blood of Christ. as of a lamb without blemish and without spot who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world but was manifest in these last times for you. We long and desire for what the King James calls corruptible things like silver and gold. To us today it's called money. Maybe soon it will go back to silver and gold. But they too are corruptible things. That means they are perishable. That's what the King James Word for corruptible means. That they are perishable. They do not last. They come and then they are gone. We use them to buy what we want and need to survive on this earth. But the end of all things is not this earth. What is here after the earth? After you leave this earth, what will you buy with? Y'all know We are headed toward the end. We are going just like all that were before us. All the family and friends that have already gone, we too are leaving here. I heard my wife walk into Granny's room yesterday morning, I guess it was, and she hollered out, are you alive? And when Granny got up and come out, ready for her breakfast and her coffee, she always drinks a half a cup of coffee, and I said, I said, Granny, one morning, she's gonna walk in and ask, are you alive? And then I'm gonna hear her scream, because you won't be. And Junior said, shut up! Why are you talking that way? I said, well, do you think she's going to live forever? I said, she's leaving here, just like her mama did, her daddy did, and all of her brothers and sisters are gone, and she's the last one living out of all of them. And she's going to leave here. And you're going to leave here. And I'm going to leave here. We're all going. I said, you can't hide from that. You can't run from that. We're leaving here. We're going to go. Prepare yourself. The Bible reminds us plenty of times to be ready for that day because we're leaving here. What will you use on the other side to buy what you need? Are you one of those who think when you die that that's the end? That you're laid in the grave and that's it? That's the end? If so, then the Bible calls you a fool. Your body is only a house where you live. When you leave your body, it dies and is buried. goes back to the dust becomes and goes back to the earth from which it was made that's only a house that you live in temporarily while you're on this earth and it's not your spirit that dies your spirit goes on to be with the Lord and your body don't die and then your spirit leaves it When your spirit leaves your body, it dies. But the part of you which is you that was breathed into you by God Almighty is eternal. It's everlasting, never ending. It continues on. Look, look, look with me. Turn, turn in your Bibles. You know, they don't even do this anymore. Preachers don't turn in Bibles. Turn to Genesis chapter 7. They don't turn in their Bibles and read anymore. And the people in the congregation don't turn in their Bibles to read anymore. Turn to Genesis chapter 7 and let's read what the Scripture says. Chapter 2, I mean. Genesis chapter 2. and verse 7, well I turned to Genesis chapter 7 also, and the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. That's just good stuff. I don't care. I don't care. Now, a lost man, an unconverted man, or a goat can read that and it don't mean a lot to him. But to a believer, he understands that God formed the body. He made Adam from the dust of the earth. and he formed it, but it was just a body. There was no life in it. But when he breathed into him, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. That's life and it's eternal. It never ends. I don't care if you're a goat or a sheep. God breathed into every man the breath of life and it is an eternal life, everlasting. We might want to remember that when we're witnessing and preaching to people in Walmart. Let me spit. In Walmart, the doctor's offices, and anywhere we go, family meetings, anywhere we meet people, we might want to remember to tell them that, that you are a living soul. God breathed the breath of life into you, and your life is eternal. Where will you spend it? Where will you be in the end? The Bible is very clear about these things. When you leave this body, as Sandra Layton did, she just left, just died, Where will you go? Please remember, you're an everlasting soul. You were breathed into by the breath of God and you will live forever. Where will you live? Were you bought with a price that is not corruptible? that is not perishable, where you bought with the blood of the Lamb, the blood of the Lamb of God, the only price that would and did satisfy the debt that was owed to the Almighty Father God for our sins. Psalm 49, 7 and 8. I've got all these in my phone there and I could just turn to them and read them, or click on my phone there and read them, but I'd rather turn to them. Psalm 49, 7 and 8. None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him. For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever. None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for Him. It is impossible to redeem yourselves or much less redeem anybody else. 1st Corinthians 6 and 20. Besides that, turning to these scriptures helps you be able to find them quickly. 1 Corinthians 6 and 20. Let's read 19 also. This is good stuff. What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price, Therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." We've been bought with a price that is incorruptible, that's not perishable. Galatians 1 and verse 4, you know it well. comes right before Ephesians. Galatians 1.4, "...who gave himself for our sins," talking about the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, let's just start at verse 1 so it makes a little better sense. We'll read through verse 5. "...Paul, an apostle, not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead, and all the brethren which are with me unto the churches of Galatia, grace be to you, and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world according to the will of God and our Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. It is by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ who gave Himself for our sins. Our sins, our debt to God the Father was paid for by the Lord Jesus Christ by His blood on the cross. 1 Peter chapter 2 verses 22 through 24. Let's read 21 through 24. For even here unto where ye called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that ye should follow his steps, who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth. who when he was reviled, reviled not again, when he suffered he threatened not, but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously, who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we being dead to sin should live under righteousness by whose stripes ye were healed. Now, the point here is is that the Lord Jesus in his own body bear our sins on the tree that we being dead to sin should live under righteousness by whose stripes ye were healed. Now, it doesn't take a genius to understand that he's talking about we were healed from our sin sickness We were sick with sins. We had a heavy burden on our back of sin, the guilt of sin that we could not get rid of. But the Lord Jesus bore that for us. In response to what we heard last week, and sort of in defense, you know of who, I won't say. Sort of in defense, we all have different amounts of grace. We all grow in grace according to the will of God. Some of us, some of you, grow more in grace than others. Don't be too hard on those who have not grown as much as you. I've tried to explain to him, I've went to great lengths to explain to him the doctrines of grace, election, predestination, why women do not speak in the church, It's beyond his capability to understand. So I cannot be too hard on him. I love him dearly. So some of the things that you heard, you know where they come from. And Friday night, He got a little upset at me and Vince when he got a little adamant there that was directed to me and Vince. So, don't be too hard on people who have not yet come to that understanding. It's like the apostles when Jesus was preaching to them and telling them I'm going to die. They're going to hang me on the cross. They're going to nail my hands and my feet. They're going to shove a spear in my side, and I'm going to die." And Peter said, not so, Lord. That ain't going to happen. He didn't understand. He couldn't comprehend that All his life he was waiting for the Messiah to come and set up an earthly kingdom and run the Romans out and set up a throne like King David had and run all their enemies off and have a great kingdom. He did not understand that it was a spiritual kingdom that Jesus come for. It just didn't understand. So don't be too hard on them, and I won't be too hard on my dear uncle. For I love him dearly. Don't mean I ain't gonna keep trying. I'm gonna keep pounding on him a little at a time, but not too bad. Let me see, I left my notes here. Oh! 1 Peter 3 and verse 18. You're already there. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit, Now you understand, you folks at Zion understand, it's been preached to you now for years, you understand that it was God the Father that schemed the plan of salvation. That His Son would come into flesh, He would be born of a virgin, and he would be the God-man and would be the mediator between God and man. The whole issue was to be able to bring God's chosen people, the elect of God, those whose names were written in the Lamb's Book of Life before the foundation of the world, to bring them to God, the Father. They're his children. He adopted them and wrote their name in the Lamb's Book of Life and told Jesus, like he told Moses, go save my people. Go bring them to me. That's just good stuff. And that's what he's saying here. Peter. Now, y'all know how much I love the Apostle Paul. I call him the Apostle. But now Peter, this is good stuff. On the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Ghost came down and filled those Apostles with the Spirit of God and they spoke in languages that they did not know, the lights came on. All the preaching that Jesus done for three and a half years that they couldn't hear and understand, they heard and understood immediately. And the Apostle Peter was a great preacher of that. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, for the unjust, that he might bring us to God the Father. It's God the Father that the Lord Jesus Christ brings us to, who is without body parts, who is Spirit that we will never see, but He is God the Father, the Almighty, the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Father of every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. being put to death in the flesh, but quickened in the spirit, by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison, which sometime were disobedient, when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water. Peter was a great preacher of the gospel. Matthew chapter 20. Matthew. Who was Matthew anyway? Who was Mark? Who was Luke? You ever think about that? John was the apostle. Mark was an evangelist. Luke was an evangelist. They were not apostles of Christ. Luke got all his information. Go read Acts sometime, the very first part of that. Well, we're not going to do it today. We'll do it later. Go read the first verse of Acts sometime and see what he says there. He talks about writing the gospel of Luke in the very first verse of Acts. He was an evangelist. He learned all that he learned from the apostles. He was not there when the Lord Jesus was walking the earth. He was not there the whole time that Jesus was preaching, but he got all that information from the Apostles. And then he wrote the Acts of the Apostles. He was an evangelist. But Matthew chapter 20, and let's see, let's look down to about verse 28. Let's see if we need to back up there a little bit. We do. We need to back up to verse 25. But Jesus called them unto him and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise domain over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you. But whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant. Even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many." That word ransom there is payment. He gave His life for a payment, a debt that we owed that we could not pay. But to minister and to give His life a ransom, a payment for a debt for many that we could not pay. Blessed Lord. Matthew chapter 26. Just turn over a couple of three pages there. Matthew 26, this being fitting for today, it is the day that we come to the Lord's table. Start at verse 26, And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and break it, and gave to the disciples, and said, Take eat, this is my body. and he took the cup and gave thanks and gave it to them saying drink ye all of it for this is the blood for this is my blood of the New Testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins but I say unto you I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my father's kingdom And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives. Now, if you hadn't read that before, you know why when we finish with the Lord's Supper, we stand, we sing a hymn, and we depart. That's what they did. But the jest here is, for this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. We've been bought with a price. We've been bought with a precious price. It is important that we remember it. I don't like much. Let me finish. We won't. Not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold the scripture says. There in 1 Peter 1 and 19. or 18, for as much as you know that we were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold from your vain conversation received by the tradition of your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. The purchase of a soul that has been sold into sin and is held captive by the devil, that old serpent called Satan, fallen Lucifer, cannot be bought with corruptible things like silver and gold. No, not even with worlds. The whole world cannot buy and redeem one's soul. You can't even redeem yourselves, much less anyone else. A soul can only be bought from the slavery of sin by the blood of the Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation 14 and 4. Revelation 14 and 4. These are they which are not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever He goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb." We are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. We were redeemed to God by the blood of the Lamb. It's very important that we remember such every day. That we remember that we were redeemed, we were bought by the blood of the Lamb. What? Know you not, this is first Corinthians chapter 6 in verse 19 and 20, know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you which you have of God and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God's. We've been bought with a precious price. The next chapter in verse 23 says you're bought with a price. Be not ye the servants of man. We are to be servants of God. And we are to remember that on a daily basis. One more scripture here and we'll close. 2 Peter chapter 2. Verse 1, "...but there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you who privately shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction." We've been bought with the price. We've been bought with the price of the Lord Jesus Christ. The blood of the Lamb. I like reading about John the Baptist. And then Jews that were standing around when John the Baptist saw the Lord Jesus knew exactly what John the Baptist was saying when he says, Behold, the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. They knew exactly what he's saying. There's the God-man. There's the Messiah, the mediator between God and man. There He is, right there. That poor boy from Galilee is the Redeemer that come to give His life for our sins. Lord help us. Brother Pappy, would you ask the Lord's blessings on us and we'll have the Lord's Supper.
