And we're going to turn back to the book of Ephesians. Ephesians chapter number 3, we'll start where we finished. this morning, but I just want to share some more thoughts, just a few. And again, a lot of times on Sunday night, I try not to be too long because we want time for the kids and spend some time in their Bible study back there as well. And so I won't be very long, which Brent knows doesn't mean very long. And when I say it won't be long, it can be short, it can be long. We're not sure. But just some thoughts with you and I. And again, remembering, of course, today is our one year anniversary here in Farmington at Calvary Baptist Church. And we're just so thankful for what God has done. and His blessings and just all that God has done for us as a church family. And excited about the days ahead, excited about tomorrow, excited about the promises of God. As I said this morning, if you look at the world around you, it's not a very exciting place. There's a lot of hardship, there's a lot of problems, there's a lot of trials, there's a lot of difficulties. in the world around us, in our communities, in the world at large. But the fact is, as a church and as a believer, we don't look at the events around us. We look at the promises of God. We look at the goodness of God. And knowing that as a Christian, as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, I have His presence. I have His promises that I can live by and I can claim every single day. And so it makes life a joy. It doesn't mean all the things in life are a joy, but it means that living for the Lord in those times is a great joy. And so I thank God that we get to be here tonight. I thank God that we get to come together as we are and worship Him in spirit and in truth. But it's sort of ironic, I get little things, little thoughts hit my mind, Brenda, and I'm bad for that. Charlie, I don't know. I would say it's old age, but I've always sort of been that way. Just a little something falls across your mind and you get distracted. And, you know, I'm thinking about the work, you know, we want to start up in Syracuse and doing some things up there and looking at combining, you know, some of our services here to open up that avenue. And then I'm sitting here, you know, looking back at Olek and his family who dropped in when? When did they show up? On Sunday night. And I'm like, now I'm going to be in trouble if I'm not here on Sunday night. And we've been through this. My wife and I have had this discussion a couple of times. Because it's like every time I mention we're going to start something up there on Sunday night, somebody will visit us on Sunday night. And I'm like, OK, Lord. OK. All right. We're not going anywhere on Sunday night, we're just staying here on Sunday night. But that's why I'm saying life, and again as a believer, you're trying to follow the Lord. And the Lord will lead you. He'll lead you according to His Word. But He gives you wisdom because many times we seek, we want to know. We want to know what the Lord wants for our life. And He directs us through His Word, but He also directs us through wisdom that He gives us in each circumstance and situation. And so, again, here I am. I'm like, okay Lord, alright. You just show me. You just show me and we're ready. But Ephesians chapter number 3. Ephesians chapter number 3. And I'm just going to read those last two verses, and you can remain seated tonight for this, and then we're going to get into, we'll pick up on our thoughts from this morning, but I want to, I had a lot more I wanted to share with you, and so I want to just sort of finish our message and our thought from this morning. In Ephesians chapter 3 and verse number 20, we read to you this morning, the Bible says, Now unto him that is able to do, exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. Let's pray. Father, again, we love You tonight. We thank You for Your Word. We thank You for this precious time together. Now, God, I pray You'll give me wisdom as I try to preach and teach Your Word. God, give us hearing ears. Lord, give us an understanding heart to receive Your Word, and God, to respond by faith to the truths of Your Word. Father, we thank You for what You do. For it's in Christ's name that we pray. Amen and amen. We looked at these two verses this morning. There were three truths, and I'm just going to, we dealt with it this morning. I just want to review a little bit. But the first thing we noticed in verse number 20 was when Paul tells the church in Ephesus, he says, now unto him that is able. And we saw that first off this morning, that he, God, is able. What is he able? He's able to do. Well, what can God do? Well, he's able to do exceeding abundantly above Above what? Above all that we ask or that we think. And so we see that Paul is encouraging the church there in Ephesus by saying, listen, hey, God is able. In a day and time in which we see a lot of craziness going on in the world around us, you're like, but preacher, what can we do? We can trust in a God who is able. Who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or even think. And so we saw that He's able. Second of all, we saw in the latter part of verse 20 that He is working. He says in the last part of verse 20, according to the power that worketh in us. So not only is God able, but God is working in the lives of His children. Those who know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, He is working in us. And then verse 21, our final thought this morning, Not only is He able, not only is He working, but He is worthy. The Bible says, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus, and I love this thought, throughout all ages. The worthiness of Christ never ends. He is worthy, He will be worthy, and He'll always be worthy of our praise and of our glory. And so those were the three thoughts that we shared with you this morning. But this evening, I just want to give you a few quick thoughts, building on the thought of the church. Who are we and what are we? Here we are in Farmington, Utah, Calvary Baptist Church, but what does that mean? And who are we as a body of believers in this place? There are three things I want us to notice. We may look at some more things after the three, but we want to start with those three. We want to go over to 1 Corinthians, or actually back up a few pages to 1 Corinthians chapter number 3. The church is about Christ. In fact, the church is Christ. We are His body. We are His bride. We are what the scripture would describe in the Gospels as the pearl of great price. We are Christ. But what is the church in 1 Corinthians chapter 3 and verse number 11? I want you to notice this truth. The Bible says, For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is our foundation. He is the foundation of everything that we believe and everything that we are. We are the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That's a whole different world in which we find ourselves living. But our foundation is Jesus Christ. Everything that we believe and everything that we are is founded on the truth of not only His teaching, but His life. Everything the Bible teaches us about Him is based upon Christ. Everything about the Church is based on Him. And so we see there is no other foundation that we can build on other than Him. In fact, that is one good test in life. You say, well, is this right or is it not? Well, look at Jesus Christ. Does it build on His foundation? Is it true? Is it right? Is it holy? Is it just? Those things build on Christ. If they're unjust, if they're untrue, if they're a false gospel or an erroneous gospel, then they're not built upon Christ. We dealt with that this morning. The culture that we're surrounded by, They pledge their allegiance not to Christ and not to the Bible, but to a man and another book. Which means it's a false foundation. Which means you cannot build on it. It is not a biblical basis. The church is built upon Jesus Christ. Again, no other foundation than Him. But go back, if you will, a little farther into the book of Acts. Not only is there no other foundation than the Lord Jesus Christ, I love this truth in Acts chapter 4 and verse number 12. Acts chapter 4 and verse number 12. Of course we know this is soon after the day of Pentecost and many are being saved and putting their faith and trust in Christ. But I want you to notice what is preached by the apostle here. He says, neither is there salvation in any other For there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Not only is there no other foundation than the Lord Jesus Christ, there is no other name by which we must be saved. I'm not saved because I'm a Baptist. I'm a Baptist because I believe that's true Bible doctrine. But I am saved because of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. His work on Calvary, His death, His burial and His resurrection, I am saved through and by His name. And that's the name we proclaim. That is the name we want to exalt. That is the name we want to share to every man, woman, boy and girl around the world is the name of Jesus Christ. Because in His name and through His name, every man can be saved. Everything, everything. God's allowed us to travel in many parts of this hemisphere, in Central and South America, and I love telling them about the name of Jesus. My dream is someday to travel to other parts of the world. I love missions and I love the world and traveling, but I love it. Why? Because it's the same message. I don't have to learn a different message to go to Mexico or the Philippines or even the Ukraine. I don't have to learn a new message. The message is the same and the message is Jesus Christ. The message is the death, the burial, the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. And as a church, there is no other foundation and there is no other name. There is no other name that we want to preach and to proclaim and to share with the world. Thirdly, there's not only no other foundation, there's no other name but John. Back up a little farther. John chapter 14 and verse number 6. John chapter 14 and verse number 6. There's no other foundation that can be laid than that of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no other name where men must be saved. That is Acts chapter 4. That's the name of Jesus Christ. But Jesus himself says this in John chapter 14 and verse number 6. Jesus saith unto him, and he's speaking to Thomas because Jesus has given the disciples a promise. They're a little troubled in verse number 1. And Jesus has encouraged them in verses 2 and 3 and 4. Thomas is questioning and confused in verse 5, and Jesus says this in verse 6, Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me. So as a church, there is no other foundation, the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved than the Lord Jesus Christ. There's no other name. You know, people talk about Buddha, but you can't be saved through the name of Buddha. People talk about Muhammad, but you can't be saved through the name of Muhammad. You can go down the line. We can talk about Joseph Smith, but you can't be saved by what Joseph Smith said. It is only through the Lord Jesus Christ, only in Him, only through and by His name and His sacrifice that man can be saved. That's who we are. Anything else is not a biblical church. Anything else is not on that foundation. They're not standing on that name and that name alone. Because Jesus said, there's no other way. There's no other way. I believe it's in the Proverbs, the wise Solomon said, there's a way that seemeth right unto man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death. Man is always looking for the way to God. In fact, man's always trying to make his own way to God. But Jesus said, I am the way. Jesus said, I am the way. And it's straight and it's narrow. It's clear. It's plain. It's simple. It is in Jesus Christ. It is in His name. It is in His death, His burial, in His resurrection, which the Bible calls the gospel. It is in that truth that man finds salvation. It's not through our own words. It's not through our own abilities. It's not through our own value. It is through Christ and Christ alone that we find forgiveness, we find peace, we find hope, we find joy, we find love in Christ and Christ alone. How much simpler could you get? I mean, it's just simple, simple. And so as a church, there's no other foundation. It's Jesus Christ. There's no other name that we want to exalt. It's Jesus Christ. There's no other way of salvation. And we're in an age and a day and a time, and I mentioned a little bit this morning, in which people say, well, everybody's trying to find their own way. There's only one. There's only one. Well, you think your way is right. No, no, I don't think my way is right. I think Jesus is right. Because long before I was ever thought of, dreamed of, or anything 2,000 years ago, Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. Jesus said, no man cometh unto the Father but by me. Jesus said that. That's His message. I just like telling people what Jesus said. Other way. He is our foundation. He is our focus. He is our forefront. All we do and are is based on Christ. He is our purpose. Go to John chapter number 20. We're in John already. Look over in John chapter number 20. One of my favorite verses, John 20 and 21. Jesus is our purpose. The Bible says in John 20 and verse 21, Then said Jesus to them, the them being His disciples, again, peace be unto you, as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you." In other words, the Father sent the Son into the world. Now, we're not sent to be the Redeemer of the world. That's why Christ came. He came to pay our sin debt and to redeem the world. But He came to be a light. He came to be a light in the world. He said, in fact, in John's Gospel, I am the light of the world. But He said, as the Father sent me to be a light in a dark world, He said, so send I you. You were called to be light in a dark place. How do you shine that light? Well, you shine it through the truth of the Word of God. Psalm 119, 105 says, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. We do it by living the Word of God, by showing the love of God and the grace of God and the mercy of God. As we live out the Scriptures, we reveal Christ to the world. The world says, you hit me, I hit you. You hit me again, I hit you. That's the way the world works. It's a vicious cycle. Jesus says, you hit me, I'm going to pray for you. Now, Charlie, don't come up and hit me, because I may not pray for you. But we are to be Christ-like. In our compassion, in our love, in our care. He is our purpose. He is our purpose. Not only is He our purpose, He's our power. Flip over just a few pages, well actually a page to Acts chapter number 1. He is our purpose, but He's also our power. He is our power. The Bible said, Jesus speaking here in Acts 1, 8, that ye shall receive power. After that, the Holy Ghost has come upon you. And you say, but Jesus is our power. I know, but he promised us the person of the Holy Spirit of God. And it's through Christ's promise that the Holy Spirit came. And He gives us power. Christ is our purpose. Christ, through the Holy Spirit of God, is our power. But back up to John 14. Back up to John 14. And I'm about done, y'all. Pass out. I never preach short messages. Don't want to preach long messages. But I'm just giving you a little thought tonight. Because I want the kids to have some time back there in their Bible study as well. But look at John 14, verse 1. Now, I want to put this in context. Jesus, He's talking to His disciples. He's told them He's going to be betrayed. He's going to lay down His life. They're going to crucify Him. He's told Peter He's going to deny Him. All of this in the upper room. And they're bothered. They're troubled about everything that's going on. Remember that Peter and James and John and Thomas and Matthew and all the disciples, they followed Jesus because they believed He was the Messiah. They believed He was the Promised One and that He was going to bring Him the Kingdom. I mean, if you'll study Judas's life carefully, who was the treasurer, we all give Judas a hard time because he betrayed the Lord and it was horrible. I mean, it was horrific what he did. but realized for three years he had followed Jesus. He had went with him everywhere he had gone and he had ministered faithfully at the side of Jesus for three and a half years. Of course, Jesus said he was a thief because he had the bank, so he wasn't the greatest man of integrity there, but he was there. He was faithful. When the disciples, when Jesus said, one of you will betray me, they had no clue who it was. Nobody. Nobody looked at Judas and said, I know it's him. Nobody. They had no idea. In fact, I was reading to, I think it was Abigail, I was reading just a little portion of the sort of the background or story of the disciples of Jesus, a little bit of their history, and they talked about how Judas was the only one of the twelve that was not from the region of Galilee. He was from the region of Judea. But how that when he betrayed the Lord, and you read the Gospels there, when Judas betrayed the Lord, and the Bible said when he saw that he was condemned, I mean, he went right back to those same Pharisees and Sadducees that he had sold out Jesus to. And he threw the money back. He said, I don't want it. I betrayed the innocent blood. Why did he say that? He knew who Jesus was. He knew. They said, what's that to us? They didn't care. They didn't care about Jesus. They didn't care about Jesus. They were just trying to get rid of him. Jesus went out and hanged himself. I mean, a horrible story. But all along that journey, Judas, it's just tragic. He saw the truth, he walked in truth, and yet he betrayed the truth. He betrayed the truth. As we think about the promise that God made, he's making it on the hills now, Judas hasn't betrayed him yet, But he's told Peter's going to deny him. He's told him one is going to betray him. And then he looks at him and he says these words in John 14, 1. Let not your heart be troubled. Because he was. Their heart was troubled. They were worried. They were uncertain. They didn't know what was going to happen. But he said, let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God? Believe also. He said, in my father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. He said, I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also. What a promise. What a promise. That where he is, that's where we get to be. And so we as a body of believers, we build our purpose around the Lord Jesus Christ. We operate, we function in the power that He promised us through the Spirit of God. But we live excited about the promise He's made us, that He's coming again. He's coming again. This world is not my home. I love life. I love living. I love my family. But this place is not where I'm going to spend eternity. Jesus said, I've got a home prepared for you. That's where I'm going to live forever. My existence here is temporal. It's preparation time. It's the time that I must choose whether I'll put my faith and trust in Christ or the temple. But as a church, it's made up of those who have accepted that gift, accepted that promise, or gift of eternal life, and now that's why we live, is to share that message of hope with others. Just sharing some final thoughts. Many claim the name of Christ. They seek to identify with His title without identifying with His person. He was not a man who became God. Rather, He was God who became man. That He might redeem man through the sacrifice of His own life on Calvary. His blood bought the redemption of whosoever. Therefore, whosoever will look to Calvary will receive the love, forgiveness, the liberty and freedom, the life and fullness that Christ purchased for them on Calvary. Thank God for Calvary. By the way, I'm done as I was thinking about when we moved here and we were thinking about a name. Of course, everything has to have a name, right? And we were thinking about a name for the church. What would we name the church? Would you name it First Baptist Church of Farmington? I don't think there's ever been one. We could have been the First Baptist Church of Farmington. Probably. There were a lot of other Bible names. A lot of other Bible terms. Hope. I love hope. I love grace. There are a lot of beautiful Bible names. But as I was just thinking about all those names and truths of the Bible, and I'm like, Lord, what name? And there's so many beautiful names in Scripture. It was like it was there. Without Calvary, none of that happens. Without Calvary, there is no peace. Without Calvary, there is no hope. Without Calvary, there is no grace. Not saving grace, as we know. So everything hinges on Calvary. And I said, Lord, that's the name. That's the name. Because our whole purpose is to get people to Calvary. Not the physical location. But the Biblical location. Where Jesus died that we might live. What a place. And what a promise. It's all about Calvary. It's all. Let's pray. Father, we love You tonight. God, we thank You for Your Word. We thank You for its truth and power. And Father, we thank You tonight for the privilege to remember, to remember who we are as a body of believers. as a church. Father, that our focus, our foundation, everything about us hinges on Jesus Christ. Our purpose, our power, our promises. They all hinge, they all rest upon Him. So Father, I pray tonight that we would look to Jesus for everything that we need. Father, if there's one here tonight that does not know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, Father, I pray tonight would be the night they would allow us to take the Bible and show them how their sins can be forgiven, they can find life in Jesus Christ. For those who know Him tonight, who know Him as their personal Savior, Father, I pray You'll encourage us tonight, not to be ashamed or afraid, but God to be bold and compassionate in our witness to share the hope that we have in Jesus with all those that we need. Father, we thank you and we'll praise you for all that you do, for it's in Jesus' name that I pray.
