We got through about the first four and a half verses, started in verse five, talked about the tabernacle, how the tabernacle was set up, talked about the fact that God provided how he was supposed to be worshipped, or that we were, that the Israelites were not supposed to be like all the other people, right? They were supposed to be set apart and they were supposed to be different. So now we're gonna continue talking about the tabernacle, we're gonna talk about the preparations, and we're gonna talk about the Levitical priesthood, and then we're gonna get into, we'll see verse 11, but when Christ appeared. Okay, so let's go ahead, let's read the first 22 verses. And we'll go ahead and start with Matt. All right. Verse 1. Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly place of holiness. 2. For a tabernacle was set up, and in the first room, which is called the holy place, were the lampstand, table, and the presentation rooms. 3. Behind the second curtain was a second section called the most holy place. having a golden altar of incense and the Ark of the Covenant covered in all sides of gold, in which was a golden jar holding the manna, and Aaron's rod which budded, and the tables of the Covenant. Five, above it were the cherubim of glory, overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. Six, these preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual 8. The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the holy places has not yet been manifested, while that first part of the tabernacle is still standing. 9. Which is symbolic for the present age, according to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshipers. 10. but deal only with food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation. 11, but when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, he entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation. 12, he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves, but by means of his own blood, thus securing the eternal redemption. 13. Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow could cleanse people's bodies from ritual defilement. 14. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God? 15. Therefore, here's the new statement of the new covenant so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. 17, for a will takes effect only at death, since it is not enforced as long as the one who made it is alive. 18, therefore, not even the first trillion will be uprooted without blood. 19, for when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, blood of calves and goats, the water 20, saying, this is the blood of the covenant that God commanded to you. 21, and in the same way, he sprinkled with the blood, both the tent and all the vessels used in it. 22, and almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and with us shedding of blood is no remuneration. OK. That was it. All right, so what are we talking about in this first 10 verses? Old Covenant versus New Covenant, remission of sin and worship. Absolutely. So we talked about, also we talked about the tabernacle, right? So I went online to kind of give us a picture of what the tabernacle looked like. So we have this old tabernacle, we have the tent. Could everybody walk into the court of the tabernacle? No. Right? There's something about the tabernacle that is different. It shows a separation, right? There is a separation. Not everybody can walk into the corner of the tabernacle. And then even more, they couldn't walk into the tent, right? Kind of wanted to give another picture. All right, so now we are in the most holy place, right? We have the technology, kind of have an idea of what they were dealing with, actually a picture of it as we were reading through it. And as we look at verse 5, the end of verse 5 says, of these things we cannot speak in detail. Why can't we speak about it in detail here? What does he say? In fact, that's not the point of this, is not to go into detail about it, right? It's already, it's in the Old Testament. The readers would know this information, and that's not the point of the letter. Okay, so verse six, these preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties, but into the second only, the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood. that we should talk about in these verses. I mean, it makes the point of not without taking blood. Right. Yeah. They can't just walk in, right? And it establishes or reminds them that this is a sacrificial system that requires the death of an animal. requires a death, right? They have to do this because of their sin, right? They have to sacrifice the animal, they have to use the blood to cleanse the, first of all, to cleanse this place into, there has to be a sin, a sin, an offering for the sin of the priest and the sin for the people. All right, there could be no remission of sin without the shedding of blood, which we read in verse 22. Okay, so, there had to be an atoning sacrifice. Verse 8, let's see, by this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the, I'm sorry, we didn't talk about seven, but into the second only the high priest goes, he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people. Okay, so there's a couple different types of sins, The sin of commission and the sin of omission. Does anybody understand what the sin of commission is and the sin of omission? What's the difference? You say it's like first degree murder versus manslaughter, right? I did something knowing it was wrong. Yes, exactly. Or, hey, I was negligent and I should have thought of this before I did it intentionally or not. Right. Yeah. David asks, I think it's Psalm 19, that God would help him with his sins that he does on purpose and the sins that he does on accident. Yeah, right, yeah. So there's gonna have to be a sacrifice, because I know I've done something. We realize that we say, let's just go ahead and sacrifice the animal, just to make sure I'm covered. Thank God that we don't have to think about that right now. We have this in verse 8, by this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing, in verse 9, in parentheses, which is symbolic for the present age. Okay, so what is he saying in verses 8 through 9? The Holy Spirit's like indicating that while the tabernacle is a thing that while God is sending the Israelites apart as his people he's not made himself manifest Right, yeah exactly Verse 9 says which is symbolic for the present age in my Bible. It's in parentheses and that word symbolic is parabola which Sounds like parable, right? Everybody understand what a parable is? It's a earthly story with a heavenly meeting. So this was symbolic or was a parable. do you think that means? An illustration for the present age. Well, he basically talked about that. We don't have that. We don't have to worry about that separation right now. John MacArthur describes it as the Levitical system being talked about here as an object lesson on what is to come in Christ. So we don't have that separation, right? When Jesus died on the You don't have that separation that they have right there, where they couldn't draw near to God. All right, so time really went by. But I think we had a good time of fellowship and prayer requests.
