Description:
All Christians are called to be disciples of Jesus Christ - to learn from Him and of Him. To fulfill their calling, they must learn how to listen to the Bible, for it is there that Christ reveals Himself and speaks to His people by His Spirit. But listening to the Bible involves more than simply reading it. It also goes beyond a technical examination of the biblical text. To listen the Bible the reader has to interact with it on its own terms. He must understand and appreciate the way the Bible reveals divine truth and how it perceives and interprets itself. This is the subject of this book. It is a book about biblical interpretation, but not in the typical sense. For it seeks to facilitate conversation with the Scripture, not simply present rules for interpreting it. It is fundamentally a book about listening - about learning how to hear the Bible speak and so discern its voice from all others, including one's own. Until the Christian can master this skill, it is almost inevitable that the Bible's speech will be lost in the multitude of competing voices.

Just finished the book--fantastic. This is a very clear book and an easy read. Very good general introduction to Biblical Theology and its importance in the hermeneutical endeavor. A truly biblical interpretation is the one that the Bible itself reveals as it interprets itself, and this book provides the theoretical (biblical) foundation and practical application necessary to understand the Bible on its own terms. If we want to know what God says, we need to know how to listen to the Bible; and we only listen to the Bible when we know how it is speaking. This book is a profound gift to the Church--read it . . . and then "listen" to the Bible speak of the glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

A great introductory book for all Christians. You will learn how to read your Bible and understand what it is saying. You will learn how to interpret the Old Testament. You will learn how the Bible as a whole is Christocentric.
