Introduction: I was looking back at some old blogs and Sunday School Lessons I had posted on FaceBook a long time ago and found this one. It was originally posted November of 2009 but I think it is rather appropriate for today.

As Christians we should know what we believe and we should be willing to stand for what we believe regardless of the consequence. We should always keep our conscience clear first towards God and then man. The scriptures tell us:
Act 24:16 This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.
Heb 13:18 Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably.
1Co 16:13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.
Christians throughout history have been called on to stand fast in the face of opposition, many of them at the cost of their lives. In the future we may be faced with standing for what we know the Bible to teach. Are we willing to stand firm? God give us the strength to say as Martin Luther did:
“Unless I am convinced by proofs from Scriptures or by plain and clear reasons and arguments, I can and will not retract, for it is neither safe nor wise to do anything against conscience. Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me. Amen.”
Updated Comments
Since I originally posted this back in 2009 Christianity has become attacked more and more in the media and many of our religious freedoms are being challenged. Here are some examples of our religious freedoms being challenged that I have heard of:
- Cake bakers being sued for declining to make a cake for a lesbian weeding.
- Attempts on college campuses to restrict religious students being freedom of speech.
- Challenge to the freedom to decline the use of Church property for a gay or lesbian wedding.
- The right of religious organization to opt out on health care coverage is being challenged by some on the political left.
- Fortunately in most cases the attempts have failed but they keep being challenged.
Here is the link to a good article that covers religious freedom issues from the Heritage Foundation.

Let’s not give in to those who would challenge the truths of the Bible and the morals taught in the Bible.
